Baby is 9months old has always been great at self settling at bedtime would chat to herself for a few mins then fall asleep. Now that she can crawl an climb thats it - no matter how tired at bedtime gets in the cot and climbs round at first very happy then repeatedly bangs her head against the cot. After about two hours of putting her back on her back we keep giving up and rocking her to sleep 🙈 what am i doing wrong? Any tips?

Do you have a travel cot? Could you borrow one from a friend? It would not be a long term solution, just interesting to see if the behaviour persists in a mesh- sided cot.
This article about deliberate head banging might be helpful. www.babycenter.com/0_head-banging-in-babies_1509186.bc Although head banging looks anything but calming, it’s thought that the repetitive movement soothes babies and actually helps them nod off. It’s something that will most likely be grown out of. Try to ignore it. Your LO might do it more if they see it’s a good way to get your attention or get you to come into the bedroom (even if it’s only to tell him to stop).
