Wisdom Tooth Pain :(

Hoping someone has some advice. Had painful wisdom tooth pain since Tuesday. Managed to get an appointment on Friday where I was given antibiotics (metronidazole) got a five day course and am on day three now and it's still painful Sad noticed I have a massive mouth ulcer at the back of my throat which is probably adding to the pain as well.

Do antibiotics usually take this long in this scenario?! Scared I need my tooth taken out in which would rather done ASAP

I had a 3 day course, but it was still painful and had to have another 5 day course. It did start to feel better but not until a couple of days after I'd finished the second course. Got a horrible taste in my mouth from the antibiotics. Was using corsodyl too. Hope yours starts to feel better soon.

See if you can have difflam mouthwash for the ulcer. It’s an antiseptic will just help you eat and numb the pain.

I had my wisdom teeth removed in the end.

It used to be more the norm to have wisdom teeth removed - I did, 1 in the dentists chair and 3 in hospital, none of which were problematic.

Antibiotics can take a while to kick in. Sometimes you have to ask for another course of them (useful to take probiotics at the Sam time), takes no OTC short term can help with an6 pain, and a mouthwash like Corsodyl can help with mouth ulcers.

Hope you feel better soon OP.

Are they sure it's an infection?
One of mine was shockingly painful when the roots hit a nerve, they took it out after that.

Thanks for your responses everyone.

Whenever I have had antibiotics before they have kicked in after 24 hours so I wasn't sure if that was the norm with dental pain.

I am going to call again tomorrow morning as it's painful when I eat and swallow as well 😢
