Was sitting in the garden enjoying the sunshine with a cup of tea. Whole load of white washing on the whirligig, nearly dry. Was sitting under a big parasol with my nose in the internet so didn’t immediately notice that it had started raining. Leapt up in a panic and for some reason, in my haste, decided that it would be easier to just lift and fold up the entire washing line with all the washing still on it, carry it indoors and then smugly put it right back up again when it had finished raining.
I couldn’t put it back up again. The weight of the washing made it impossible to push the pole back up to the top. There I am, washing hanging all around me, and the bloody thing won’t shift. I am swearing and nearly weeping by this point so I gave up, let it drop, collected all the now dirty washing up and threw it in the washing machine again. It can bloody well go in the tumble dryer. Or I’ll hang it out tomorrow and pretend the whole ridiculous thing didn’t happen.
Jesus Christ. I do wonder at myself sometimes. Please tell me I’m not the only complete idiot.
