To want to scream at posters

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 15/06/2019 16:13

That putting "fuck off daily mail" in your post, or "the daily mail are cunts" or any other variation of that will not stop them printing your story.
They'll just edit it out
If you don't want to be picked up and used for tabloid click bait don't post it on open forum.

It just

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/06/2019 16:15

Agreed

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 15/06/2019 16:16

And having "thedailymailisshit" as your user name won't help eitherHmm

OP posts:
Sirzy · 15/06/2019 16:16

I agree.

It also screams of “I know my story is ‘newsworthy’ look at me”

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 15/06/2019 16:20

I wonder sometimes if people do it in the desperate hope it will be picked up

OP posts:
NewSchoolNewName · 15/06/2019 16:20

Oh yes.

I’m sure all tabloids are familiar with the concept of editing things out!

PuppyMonkey · 15/06/2019 16:24

The only time I’ve ever seen MN threads turned into stories, the journalist has written stuff like:

One poster said “xxxx” while another thought “xxxx”.

And if there’s any “fuck off Daily Mail” rants, that just gets omitted.

WorraLiberty · 15/06/2019 16:25

YANBU, it makes me cringe.

Even more so when the thread is really mundane.

SemperIdem · 15/06/2019 16:26

Yanbu

LaminateAnecdotes · 15/06/2019 16:27

The Daily Mail might edit it out, but Google will work out where it originated and put the source story higher in it's page rankings. Originality being an uprater. So there should be a good chance that if the Daily Mail (I am legally obliged to point out other shit right wing newspapers are available in the UK) does start a story trending, Googles "trending" will show the original first. In all it's glory.

Unless the Daily Mail puts some real journalism into it, and reworks it enough to distinguish it from the source,

If you have safe search ON, you're less likely to see the profane original though.

ChicCroissant · 15/06/2019 16:28

I've seen them obscure swearing in posts/usernames when the DM use screenshots so no, it doesn't work. We know it's there though!

Passthecherrycoke · 15/06/2019 16:29

It’s so fucking stupid 🤣

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 15/06/2019 16:31

Do people genuinely believe that it will work? Confused

OP posts:
NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 15/06/2019 16:31

Oh the number of people who think the internet in general is their personal void for yelling in to where they can say what the hell they like and get no conconquences/difference of opppinion amd get annoyed when some one says i disagree with you.

That said the tabliod tactic of lifting stories from here, partically from the rekationships section is very unsavoury these are peoples lives not the newspaper version of the JK show (also peoples lives i know) for other people to mind wank over and laugh at.

That said again, you're absolutely right, telling the daily fail to fuck off or any thing else isnt going to help one of the few remaining skills required of journolists is editing.

Just in general any thing you say on the internet is public and perment, even if you delete social media posts/get things deleted from here there's a very real chance its already been screen capped or used in a story some how.

Cuppa12345 · 15/06/2019 16:34

They screen shot threads in the articles I've seen so I think it makes sense. If they do screen shot it, they'll probably start and end it without those users posts in it.

RedDogsBeg · 15/06/2019 16:57

Agree OP, also want to scream when posters call it the daily fail or apologise for linking to articles in it.

Soola · 15/06/2019 17:03

Yes it’s pathetic and shows a complete lack of understanding how a public chat forum works and how modern journalism garner information.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 15/06/2019 17:08

And the complaining when stories are lifted
Yes it's shit
But that's how the Internet works.
It's out there for the whole world to see

OP posts:
SouthernComforts · 15/06/2019 17:09

Yes it's ridiculous. So is "namechanged but I'm a regular.. pom bears, naice ham, penis beaker tee hee"
Any thread that has a paragraph of introductory shite at the beginning gets closed immediately.

InsertFunnyUsername · 15/06/2019 17:12

YANBU or the listing off "MN phrases" Loo brushes, naice ham pom bears etc as a badge of honesty. The information is right here for potential trolls to read, putting them in your OP doesn't make your story any more believable.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 15/06/2019 17:12

Indeed
Because long term poster are never ever trolling goady fuckers are they Hmm

OP posts:
InsertFunnyUsername · 15/06/2019 17:12

Oh cross posted, slow typer 🙈

badguys · 15/06/2019 17:13

I enjoyed the time an MNer copied and pasted a multi-paragraph 'legal disclaimer' at the start of her postGrin. This allegedly prevented the Mail or any other journalist being able to use her story. Brilliant.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 15/06/2019 17:15

@badguys I remember that
Proves my mantra
You can't cure stupid Grin

OP posts:
BIWI · 15/06/2019 17:21

Irritates the hell out of me, along with those who seem to think everything they post here should be private.
