If you are going away abroad, where are you going?
Any recommendations of resorts/ hotels?
We had a week in Cyprus last year so may go back there but looking for other ideas. Budget is £2k for 2 adults and a 7 year old and we can go for a week from 18/19/20 October, short haul (ish) from Leeds/ Bradford or Manchester.

Canary Islands are usually hot year round

reluctantbrit · 15/06/2019 15:17

Cyprus, sorry.

We went last year to Lanzarote, good weather, one day of wash out. We did a shortish break, only 5 days, and really didn’t go outside the resort much. If I would go back I think I would prefer Tenerife instead, I found the black volcanic soil everywhere depressing.

Sicily?

ValleyoftheHorses · 15/06/2019 15:24

Whereabouts in Cyprus @reluctantbrit ? Any hotel recommendations would be great too.

We went to Fuerteventura two Octobers ago and it was hot and sunny. Went with one of the major tour operator (forget which) and stayed here: www.barcelo.com/en-gb/occidental-hotels/hotels/spain/canary-islands/fuerteventura/occidental-jandia-mar/

We booked Aphrodite Hills upon a recommendation from friends.

Our Summer holiday this year is low key so we decided to spend a bit more in October.

Nonstopbuttmachine · 15/06/2019 17:21

Cyprus can be risky at the end of October, good chance of heavy rain and storms. Aphrodite Hills is lovely but you're miles from anywhere and you'd have to hire a car; you'd be better to book somewhere in Paphos or the other end of the island (Ayia Napa or Protaras)

missyB1 · 15/06/2019 17:24

We are thinking of Madeira for October half term, climate is supposed to be good all year.

reluctantbrit · 15/06/2019 21:36

We plan this holiday as a sightseeing one, not a beach resort. Hire car is normally standard anyway for us as DH hates AI dinners so we go out a lot anyway.

Figgygal · 15/06/2019 21:37

I've been looking lanzarote or menorca

Though Jamaica ridiculously isn't that much more expensive

reluctantbrit · 15/06/2019 21:52

That’s because Jamaica has hurricane season in October .

MintyCedric · 15/06/2019 22:01

We're off tol Malta in October. Weather sounds promising and happy to be going somewhere they drove on the left!

Nan0second · 15/06/2019 22:09

Our half term this year is slightly earlier than average so I’m going to stalk this thread for ideas!

stucknoue · 15/06/2019 22:15

Canaries are the warmer option but it's possible to get storms. The southernmost parts of Europe often are ok but hit or miss

Rememberallball · 16/06/2019 09:27

Done Cyprus in October half term week and weather was poor - if we were lucky we got an hour or two sat in sunshine but with cool breeze. Would agree with Malta, Canary Islands or Madeira as options as weather seems much more stable there.

ValleyoftheHorses · 16/06/2019 10:59

I’m looking at Puerto Mogan in Gran Canaria now if anyone has been there?
Thanks for all replies

We’ve done Malta and Rhodes. We’ve done well with TUI all inclusive both times. But I confess it was more like £3k for four of us.

ValleyoftheHorses · 24/06/2019 22:23

Update- booked a week at Hotel Cordial Mogan Playa in Gran CanariaGrin

@ValleyoftheHorses did you have a good holiday? Would you recommend?
I’m now planning October 2020!

AnnaMariaDreams · 04/02/2020 20:19

Namechanged
Yes it was lovely thanks.
Cordial Mogan Playa is a beautiful hotel and we had really nice weather.

hopefulhalf · 04/02/2020 20:21

We went to Naples weather was perfect.

Nan0second · 10/02/2020 21:25

Thank you!

TravellingSpoon · 10/02/2020 21:45

We went to Tenerife last year and will be going back again this October, though it's just me and the DC's this year.

It's not everyone's cup of tea but my DS loves it and we had great weather.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 10/02/2020 21:56

I had to get married in October. We chose the South of France as it’s been really warm every other time we’ve been in half term. Didn’t disappoint - low to mid 20’s. Evenings were ok too and although it’s dark early if the clocks change it’s still an hour ahead.
Flights to Nice are cheap as are Airbnb’s.
