How to sell expensive items? eBay?

Goosethemoose · 15/06/2019 13:26

I've just checked some unwanted, unused items and found that the photo album was about 200usd new and the office tray was about 100usd(!). Where is the best place to sell them? Am in the UK but keep coming across horror stories on here about scammers on eBay. Any other ideas or advice, please?

Not everyone has a problem on Ebay, you only tend to hear about the bad ones.

However, don't expect to get the full value.

If you are new to Ebay, or even if you aren't, take a look on Ebay in the community pages, and you will find people willing to give advice in the buying and selling forums.

Thanks, will do! No, absolutely, happy just to get a portion of it- it's much more than I'd expected.

Good luck Smile

I personally wouldn't sell expensive items on ebay but if you do make sure you send it special delivery so it covers the value if lost in the post, plus a signature incase they say they haven't received it.

I prefer to sell on my local fb selling groups

Goosethemoose · 16/06/2019 14:35

Oh that's another good idea, thank you. I'll have a look at the local groups, I don't use anything like this usually but the items are quite valuable clearly so don't want to just give them away...

Sounds like expensive specialist item that will only fetch an excellent price on Ebay, not on local selling pgs, esp. if you don't live in/near a big city.

Would you be able to post it with enough insurance?
How much have similar items recently sold for on Ebay?
Those are First challenges.

When you wrote expensive I was thinking a lot more than that. My cousin sold a car on eBay.
Search on eBay for similar items and that should give you an idea what they’ll sell for.

BedraggledBlitz · 16/06/2019 14:41

You can filter searches on Ebay to show "completed items" only. Red price means didnt sell. Green price shows selling value. Gives a good idea on whether to bother.

Haha, yes, sorry- I guess it depends on your view of expensive. I wouldn't say £150 is a huge amount of money, but it's a lot for a flipping A5 photo album, to my mind! I'm in London so can probably find a local-ish buyer... will investigate. Thanks for the tips!
