How the hell did I do this and what do I do next?!

I was rushing at work to get everything finished before I go on holiday tomorrow. I had to add my boss's signature to a letter and email it before I went. I have a folder on my PC of my boss's personal stuff. I added her signature, converted it to .pdf and sent it. I've just checked my work email to make sure there isn't anything last minute I need to do before I go away and I've had an email from the recipient suggesting sternly that I check what I sent. Somehow, without noticing in my haste, I've added her corporate headshot instead of her signature! They've copied my boss in to the email so even if I could try in some way to cover it up she will find out Monday what a fuckwit I am.
What do I do? It's not so bad that we will lose any business over it but it does raise a huge question over how professional we are Blush

Are you sure it raises a "huge question" over your whole organisation's professionalism?
Surely you just resend a corrected version of the letter with apologies for any confusion caused?

Aquamarine1029 · 14/06/2019 23:26

You made a small mistake. If your work history is otherwise good, I wouldn't worry about it. Apologise for your error and move on.

StellarLunar · 14/06/2019 23:28

It wasn't a dick pic. It'll be fine. Just resend saying apologies, please find correct doc attached. Seriously, it's OK

It was in response to a complaint, so doesn't look great given the background. Sorry, maybe I should have added that to my opening post.

I agree with Perspicacia (I wouldn’t dare do anything else). Thank the person for drawing it to your attention so promptly and then resend.

I made a massive cock up at work once. It was brought to my attention and I was horrified. I worked on it, corrected it and reissued it with an apology. I then went down to my line manager with my tail between my legs to give him a heads up on what I had done (before he had any complaints about it) and what I had done to put things right. He was very complimentary about my responsibility and initiative in sorting it out before bothering him with it. I think he actually trusted me more after that than he had before.

I agree with pp send the email in the correct format straight away. We all make mistakes, and you didn't send anything offensive or anything sensitive / confidential.

Just sort it, send it again. Then email boss with the problem and solution! Done!

BunloafAndCrumpets · 14/06/2019 23:56

This is not a disaster. Resend a correct version ASAP. Of all the things that could have been inserted there, a corporate photo is probably the very least embarrassing

Didiusfalco · 15/06/2019 00:01

I think that’s a simple mistake that’s unlikely cause any particular problem and the person is being a dick by copying your boss in. Don’t give it too much thought.

I can send an apology email but won't be able to send a revised letter for another week as I am on holiday. It's just embarrassing given the situation!
