I bravely agreed to make cakes this morning before school with the Dses aged 8 and 6, ready to ice this afternoon and hide until Sunday for daddy's fathers day surprise breakfast.

Bloody hell. What should have been a quick 15 minutes to mix and 20 in the oven Hmm turned into an more than an hour of trying to allow each child to have an equal go at all the mixing/egg cracking/dolloping/eating the mixture without WW3 breaking out and total annihilation of my kitchen.

I'm exhausted now.

Painting. I always think it'll be lovely, with the radio on in the background, quick job with the roller. The reality: I listen to the same 12 songs on Heart while trying to masking tape over all the plug sockets, lintels, architraves and radiators, then get frustrated and stop for lunch.

Another vote for painting garden furniture. Spent 3 evenings on a wooden slatted swingseat. Having my coffee on it this morning and STILL spotted a side of one of the arm rests I'd missed.

Tiling. I always forget just how much faff it is cutting the fiddly bits. Was so fed up after doing kitchen splash back it's still ungrouted because I'm still too cross to do it!
