Least bad Tory leader

Regardless of who actually wins, out of the 7 left who is the least offensive?

I don't pretend to know very much at all about these people other than snippets and headlines. Can anyone tell me if there is anyone I should be crossing my fingers hoping to get it.
Or is it just a figurehead job and it doesn't matter as it's the team behind it that does all the work?

Rory Stewart

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 13/06/2019 16:57

Rory Stewart, but with only 19 votes in this latest round it is looking unlikely.

MaxNormal · 13/06/2019 16:59

Rory Stewart seems to be the only sane one.

Definitely Rory the Tory.

Actually speaks sense and tells it how it is (no fairy tales or unicorns).

Of course this means he won't have a chance Hmm

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 13/06/2019 17:06

Yeah, another one hoping for Rory (but faintly - it'll never happen Confused)

LizzieMacQueen · 13/06/2019 17:08

No surprise then that the 2 women are out!

Anyone but Gove.

Seriously this might give Labour a chance. If we could persuade Keir Starmer, Tom Watson and John McDonnell to lead and consign Corbyn and Abbott to the back benches then I'm sure some of the Change UK MPs (as were) could be persuaded to join.

thecatsthecats · 13/06/2019 17:09

Jeremy Hunt, but only so I can be right with my bet with my husband.

Think even the 'better' ones have the same shit sandwich facing them, without much prospects of improving it.

CassianAndor · 13/06/2019 17:12

Rory Stewart.

CassianAndor · 13/06/2019 17:13

in fact, could @MNHQ get Rory on for a webchat? Would fit in with his meander around the country talking to people.

Nousernameforme · 13/06/2019 17:35

Rory Stewart it is then. It was comforting to read that those who are in the lead at this point don't tend to get in. I am clutching to that in teh hopes that Boris buggers off

Of those who might be on the final two, Jeremy Hunt.

Of the seven, agree it is Rory Stewart.

BlueberrySkies · 13/06/2019 17:57

Hmm not convinced...

I like Dominic Raab.

Have you seen this? Twitter.

Least bad Tory leader
JasperRising · 13/06/2019 18:12

But that voting record is not surprising BlueberrySkies. He is a Tory MP running to lead the Conservative party. Of course he will have voted with the government or he wouldn't be in the position he is now. Someone with a different voting record isn't going to be in running for Conservative leader.

He seems measured, intelligent and has diplomatic experience, therefore, he seems a good choice from the available options of Tory MPs running to lead the party (and thus be PM). Of course, if the choice was best MP from any party to lead the country, I would not consider him the best option.

ZenNudist · 13/06/2019 18:26

Rory the Tory voting record is true blue. Other than that (!) I like him. I am a Labour voter (not a corbyn fan but held my nose and voted for him last time), flirted with lib dem once. I really hope he gets into top 2 but sadly think he will lose the party vote.

I think he is young and positioning himself now for a future run. Thing is Boris will make such a mess of it that the Tories are scheduled some time in the wilderness after him.

BlueberrySkies · 13/06/2019 18:46

Yes, I suppose you’re right. I guess that’s why I’m not a conservative!

Grumpyyetgorgeous · 13/06/2019 19:14

Boris seems to have a massive majority. I've just read an article saying how much of a pay cut being Pm would mean for him.... so I'm hoping he sees the pound signs and pulls out. Am I clutching at straws?

ForalltheSaints · 14/06/2019 18:00

Grumpyyetgorgeous I expect there are a lot of people who wished Stanley Johnson had pulled out about 55 years ago!

Loveislandaddict · 14/06/2019 18:03

Johnny Mercer

Was hoping Johnny Mercer would stand as liked him on Hunted. Maybe he didn’t want the poison chalice of Brexit.

tomtom1999xx · 14/06/2019 18:08

I like Rory, but he looks like something that’s been found on an archeological dig.
He’s not easy on the eye.

Carpediem1 · 14/06/2019 18:16

I see what you mean #BlueberrySkies - an alarming voting record if you have any kind of social conscience or concern for the environment...Doesn't bode well as Rory Stewart seemed the most liberal of the lot of them...

Carpediem1 · 14/06/2019 18:17

Surprising to see 'like' used alongside Raaab

Violetparis · 14/06/2019 18:19

Rory Stewart but think he will be knocked out in the next round of votes.

NotMeNoNo · 14/06/2019 18:22

The one most likely to lose the next general election IMO!
