Alcoholic Uncle

HE IS DRIVING ME CRAZY

He's in his sixties, was hospitalised for nearly two weeks recently after an acute drinking episode where he was imagining all sorts. If I visited he'd say things like 'there's a man behind you with a syringe'. I didn't even bother turning around.

So hospital put him on drips and gave him plenty of benzodiazepines. He has been out ONE WEEK and he fell back into the same state, tried to kiss me (fucking grim) and started hallucinating again.

I swear to god if I had any antabuse pills I'd grind them up and put them in his coke so he'd be violently sick anytime he attempted alcohol.

He has just been carted off to hospital again.

But what do you do? Nothing, I guess.

Distance yourself OP? What does being in close contact give you? Doesn't sound like much. Sad

He's in the late stages of a terminal disease. There's really nothing you can do. Were you close to him before it got this bad?

Sorry. Flowers

Thanks @onalongsabbatical and @MissConductUS.

I NC'd for this as I was embarrassed, also felt bad for putting 'alcoholic uncle' in the title instead of uncle with alcoholism, like you wouldn't put cancer-stricken uncle, you'd say uncle with cancer. I know it's a disease.

I haven't had much contact with him since he tried to kiss me Friday as I'm so furious about it (my parents would go ballistic if they knew) then he was taken into hospital again a few hours ago.

Appreciated your words @MissConductUS no we weren't that close but obviously you care and it makes me want to bash his head against a brick wall that whenever he gets out of hospital he goes straight back on it. Anyway no whisky for him tonight.
