Renewing a passport in secret

Thought I'd nailed Christmas this year by booking a surprise year trip for DH and the boys to Barcelona

The boys both need passports renewed but I can sort that without arousing suspicion. However, I've just checked mine and DH passport and they expire in March so wont be valid for travel due to Brexit.

Can I apply for a passport for him without him knowing or am I going to have to extend the web of lies to come up with a reason for him to renew his passport even though (to his knowledge) we arent going anywhere for at least 3 years!

If your dh doesn't agree to getting it renewed because the prices might increase with Brexit could you not pretend a relative or good friend is getting married abroad and you want to renew your passports to make sure they are done in plenty of time. They could be getting married in Barcelona at Christmas, that way if your dh sees any info on an e-mail that flashes up on your phone screen/in a letter etc about the holiday then you can say it is for the wedding.
