What do you spend your nectar points on?

Inspired by another thread. Have £100 worth of points. Want to spend it on something other than petrol!

I spend mine in the double up as well and buy DVD's, books, gifts, booze all for xmas presents. Save them all year.
Yes you get double the points you have although there is a maximum amount you can spend

BarbaraofSevillle · 11/06/2019 22:17

The double up is usually in November and you get double value in certain categories like toys and taste the difference wine. I got a few bottles of cava last Christmas which wasn't bad as I don't shop in Sainsbury's that often and the points were mostly from eBay and petrol from BP.

BackforGood · 11/06/2019 22:18

I tend to just use mine anything I need something from Argos, which then in effect, is 'free'.

SusieSusieSoo · 11/06/2019 22:24

Train tickets x

Vinorosso74 · 11/06/2019 22:24

I use mine towards train tickets with LNER (and all the predecessors on that route).

Proseccoagain · 12/06/2019 06:22

Save them up and use them at Christmas to buy some nice booze.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 12/06/2019 06:53

Big Christmas food shop.
Got lots this year since I switched to online shopping and I use a Sainsbury's cc.
Makes December a lot less stressful.

Violetroselily · 12/06/2019 06:59

I usually spend them at Argos

ExpletiveDelighted · 12/06/2019 07:00

Double up event here, done it for the last few years. I usually have about £100 worth as I use Sainsburys all the time with a Nectar credit card, so that's £200 worth of free stuff. Over the last few years I've had lots of new and replacement kitchen things (utensils, crockery, baking trays, teatowels etc), clothes, books/DVDs/games, Christmas booze. It's advertised in store, Nectar emails etc.

Lifebuoy · 12/06/2019 07:07

If you're not spending them during the double up then you're wasting half the benefit!
If you have £50 in nectar points you can double up to £100, then buy some electrical item for £100, return it the next day and they will give you a gift card for£100 which you can use to buy anything.

Crunchymum · 12/06/2019 13:51

I always thought double nectar points meant you got double the amount when you shop!

But double Nectar points mean you have to spend them in order to get the doubled amount?

Clearly I'm an idiot!

smartiecake · 12/06/2019 14:53

Double up means you redeem your points for a voucher worth double the amount. I think the minimum is £5 maybe maximum is £100, not sure i never have the maximum amount!
I have had Nintendo switch games, books, dvd's, pyjamas etc all as xmas presents and it has cost me zero.

Hoppinggreen · 12/06/2019 16:45

I usually have about £80 worth of points by November double up time so I swap them for £160 of vouchers
There are limits to what you can spend them on and the maximum as well I think but I basically get £160 of free stuff

Anticyclone · 12/06/2019 16:59

You're right @Crunchymum. There is a subtle difference between "double nectar points" when buying something. And the occasional "double up" discount periods they have which gives you double the value of your nectar points to spend as a voucher in store.

SunsetBunny · 12/06/2019 17:23

They used to do the double up aroubd Easter too but they seem to have stopped that now the cheeky feckers!

babysharkah · 12/06/2019 17:38

Christmas. Same as on the other thread! We usually have around £150 between the two.

AdaColeman · 12/06/2019 17:53

I've bought things from Argos, a sewing machine was the last one. I often used to get books with the points, through Speedy Hen which had a huge selection available, but they seem to have stopped that choice now unfortunately.
I don't bother much with collecting points ATM, as few of the offers interest me.

ittooshallpass · 12/06/2019 17:59

I always wait for double up and buy or get a good chunk off things like a new microwave, iron, new towels or even a large screen TV on one occasion.

goingtotown · 12/06/2019 18:11

I used Nectar points worth £275 on my Kitchen Aid & paid the balance on my debit card.

goingtotown · 12/06/2019 18:12

That was in Argos.

wibbletooth · 12/06/2019 18:29

Use them to double up in November to get loads of stuff for Christmas.

This year they seemed to have simplified the system (thank god - it was a nightmare!) so that you weren't as restricted as you had been in previous years as to how you split your spending. And as I was going in more than once over the double up time, I was able to use up to the maximum each time. I had lots of points last year, that had saved up over the years but spent nearly all of them last year, so not going to have such a good haul this year!

namechangedforthis1980 · 12/06/2019 18:32

Usually buy some Christmas treats, or an extra present each for my sons. Last year I did the double up offer and got Black Ops 4 PS4 and Fifa 19 Xbox for just a couple of pounds!

MaybeitsMaybelline · 12/06/2019 18:33

I never spend them, but I did buy two tubs of Sudocrem on Sunday when I forgot my card and didn’t have enough cash.

Ginlinessisnexttogodliness · 12/06/2019 18:34

Double up for booze at Christmas
WineGinGinGinGinGinGin!

YorkieTheRabbit · 12/06/2019 18:46

I’ve been wondering about this too. We’ve got just under £400 in nectar points. I don’t shop in Sainsburys do have been looking at Argos. The trouble is that none of the larger/more expensive items are in store only available for home delivery but it seems that they can only be spent in store. Can’t see the point of buying something we don’t actually want so they’ll probably just keep increasing but not being used. Hopefully Argos will get round to accepting them on home delivery items or somewhere else will start giving the opportunity to spend as well as collecting them.
