Chickenpox

We was at a restaurant yesterday afternoon with my 3 year old
Another family where next to us with a child who looked well to me ...
Anyway I heard the mum say last Wednesday said child woke up with chicken pox blisters on there tummy she took them to the GP Thursday and gp confirmed pox
Child ended up with a mild case and the only spots left where v faint behind her neck
Mum claimed pox wasn't contagious once spots came out and it was only a week before she was contagious so they haven't been staying indoors which is wrong . I wouldn't take my dd if I knew she had pox to a restaurant...
Chances my dd will get it ? They did play together in the play area
Child wasn't snotty and no visible spots
We have a planned a few days out in a couple weeks as DP has a week off work
Wondering if we should be planning for a week quarantine instead?

My understanding is they’re contagious until the spots scab over. My 3 year old has it at the moment, and that’s when they’ll let her back in nursery.

TBH she has a 1 year old sibling who has been sharing baths and cuddling her as normal and she’s not got it yet, and that’s repeated exposure rather than a one off like ours.

Yeah that's correct there contagious 1-2 days before spots appear and until they all scan

I hope she hasn't exposed anyone for whom it would be dangerous for

She said nursery won't let her attend but she doesn't understand why as she isn't contagious 🙄

Well you can't keep them cooped up. Life has to go on. However taking them to bloody non essential place such as restaurant/play area is beyond ridiculous. That said though with the greatest respect. Your kids are bound to get it at some point.

PPs are correct. They're contagious until the spots scab over

Yep will wait and see now
At least if it happens on dp week off he will be around to help
I definitely wouldn't be taking a poxy kid out to busy places though...
I'm shocked she hasn't picked it up being at nursery anyway
I had chicken pox at 2.5 years old and I developed it the day my mum bought my newborn brother home from hospital
Luckily her antibodies meant he didn't catch it but it caught it as a adult and had a horrible time with it
