I logged on to the desktop this morning, opened up Chrome with my usual homepages and wondered what the hell is Lexico? Where the hell has the Oxford Dictionaries gone?
Lexico is the new collaboration between Dictionary.com and OUP. Looking through the content, it has been drastically reduced. It has English and Spanish only. The blogs and quizzes have been removed (as far as I could see). I'm so disappointed. Similar to the BBC's removal of 11,000 recipes from it's Food site. I appreciate that this is cost cutting and reduction of the free content is inevitable. Possibly job losses as well.
I think at the moment we definitely take free web content for granted. That there will be a shift towards paid subscriptions to websites. It's not only about cost but the loss of access information.
