What would you have done?

Scenario which happened over the weekend just interested in if I chose the right thing to do.

My grandad was taken into hospital during the afternoon, boyfriend was out with friends so I didn’t tell him until the next morning because I didn’t want to interrupt his night/ make him feel like he had to come home. Boyfriend was upset because I ‘didn’t give him the chance to support me’.

Would other people have let him know straight away or have waited till he was available? Grandad was not in any immediate danger, it was due to an ongoing illness.

You were considerate.

I think you did the right thing unless he had already told you that if your grandad gets admitted again or worsens then he would like to know ASAP.

Your boyfriend seems to be making it all about him Hmm. I have elderly parents & I wouldn’t tell my DH (we’ve been married 30 years & he is very fond of my parents) the minute they went into hospital & if he was away on business or out with friends I wouldn’t feel the need to tell him immediately. I would deal with the situation myself & tell my DH when it was appropriate. I wouldn’t interrupt his night out.

I wouldn't have told my husband either. In fact there's many times this has happened that he still doesn't know about.
