ARGH.

We're going to Greece - three nights in Athens to faint in the heat/see antiquities, then eleven nights in a beach resort which we could get to from Piraeus. Except that bit has fallen through (something to do with money transfer regulations changing in France or so she tells me).

So we need to stay somewhere, urgently. What we had was a villa in Porto Cheli, right in the centre of town, as we were optimistically hoping not to rent a car.

Right now, I will take anything, anywhere in Greece that is nice, in a town and accessible from Piraeus. Can anyone help/advise or whatever?

Try Trivago,/Home away/booking.com. You obviously know where you want to go.lf you know you can get something even if it's a hotel then it stops the panic. You may be able to get a place with free cancellation so it gives you time to find a place you'd prefer but at least you have a holiday.

I'm happy to go anywhere - the problem is we don't know Greece very well and have just landed on Porto Cheli, which now seems to be full.

Free cancellation is a good idea, though, thank you.

Sorry can't help with areas of Greece I've only ever been to Athens. Hopefully somebody with better knowledge will be along soon

When are you going and how many people. There seems to be lots on booking.com for Porto cheli

I highly recommend either Spetses or Poros. Aegena is very close to Pireas but it's a big island with cars and a small town. Spetses and Poros are quieter islands, beyond beautiful and people use Vespas mainly.

We're going mid-July, and there are three of us - me, DH, 12 year old DD. We did have a lovely villa in the middle of Porto Cheli, but Spetses sounds good - can you walk to the beaches from the town?

We stayed in the Plaka Hotel right in the middle of Athens in Feb. It was walkable to everywhere we wanted to visit, but wouldn't really live up to replacing a lovely villa, I'm afraid.

Poros or agistri are my favourite places on earth.

Try oasis hotel on scala beach on agistri. It is stunning and right in the beach, as the name suggests.

@Tryingthisonefornow Agistri looks lovely, thank you - and we could get across to do some sightseeing too.
