Come cheer me up while I prepare for my colonoscopy

As per the title suggest having a colonoscopy tomorrow and I’ve just started the prep!!

I am in for a long long night...quite probably glued to my toilet!!

Anyone fancy cheering me up?? Or a bit of sympathy

I had one last week and to be perfectly honest with you, the prep wasn't too bad at all! I took one sachet around 4pm and nothing at all happened overnight.

Took the second at 7am and went about four or five times in total. All over by 11am.

Don't know if you've had one before but I had sedation. Was aware of what was happening and chatting but no discomfort.

Was a little disappointed that I didn't have a trapped air afterwards. There is something satisfying about post-colonoscopy farts!

Good luck!

A few years ago when I had a colonoscopy (with anaesthetic), the consultant came to see me afterwards and was amused to tell me that at various points during the procedure I kept asking for photos (of the inside of my bowel) to give to my friends BlushGrin Not sure my friends would have considered it much of a gift!

Lots of sympathy here. My suggestion is make sure you use some cream on the vital part before it starts to sting. If it gets that far it is too late. Some sort of barrier cream like sudocrem or similar.

With you op. The prep is absolutely grim.
Make sure you ask for sedation if you can...no point being a martyr for some it can be very painful

marvellousnightforamooncup · 10/06/2019 18:20

Mitch, I have some lovely photos of inside DS's colon for his 18th.

Greenglassteacup · 10/06/2019 18:23

You’ve started your prep late in the day OP!!! Get ready for an eventful night. Billy connolly’s description of the prep is pretty accurate in my experience. It’s on you tube

Percypenny · 10/06/2019 18:26

How do you make your husband scream during great sex?
Call and tell him about it

LittleGinBigGin · 10/06/2019 18:28

I’ve had a couple years and years ago (over 10) and I think I’ve blocked out the bad bits Grin

That’s the 1st lot done! I shall await the explosion! And alarm set for 3 am for the next lot

Ooh thank you I shall find the barrier cream now and have it on standby.

I quite like the idea of pictures and showing people

WombatStewForTea in my area now they like you to have gas and air...I’ve told them I’m a wimp and want sedation.

Greenglassteacup I’m expecting an eventful night

How come you’re taking the prep at night and then at 3am op?

JeremyCorbynsCoat · 10/06/2019 18:34

I don't have any helpful tips but I do have a picture of my insides (taken from the other end) that I take great delight in showing people. I usually start with

GUESS WHAT THIS IS

marvellousnightforamooncup · 10/06/2019 18:39

My brother said the best bit was watching the camera on the big screen approach his arsehole. Such fun!

MitchAPalooza · 10/06/2019 18:42

I feel cheated that people have pictures, I never actually got any! Just wait until next time...!

LittleGinBigGin · 10/06/2019 18:43

Greenglassteacup my first dose is 6pm my second is supposed to be at 6am but I have to travel over an hour to the hospital (probably longer as it’s rush hour) I spoke to them this after noon and she said I can take the next one at 3am so I’m safe to travel... she said I can actually take my next one as early as midnight, if I’m still up I very well may do best get it all over with.

LittleGinBigGin · 10/06/2019 18:44

I’m definitely asking for pictures Grin

That will be a fun topic at the dinner table

OP you have lots of sympathy from me btw, the preparation is definitely the worst bit by far. My favourite bit is the hour or so lie down after it while the sedation wears off!

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 10/06/2019 18:45

If you drink blue gatorade it comes out the same colour

you're welcome Grin

Greenglassteacup · 10/06/2019 18:50

I wonder if they’ve changed what they use for the prep. I’ve got one coming up in a few weeks but haven’t had one for a few years. The last few times I took it in the morning of the day before and I started shitting my arse inside out after about 2-3 hours and all day until late that night. It can’t be the same prep if they’re recommending you take it in the evening

Greenglassteacup · 10/06/2019 18:51

Flowers OP

AhhhHereItGoes · 10/06/2019 18:51

I had one about 5 years ago.

I honestly thought it would be painful by all the accounts.

But actually had loose stools about 4-5 bouts in 2 hours then once during the night had a big evacuation.

I was surprised it was the morning prep that felt the worst as it was getting rid of everything and as barely anything there it was a bit cramps.

Tbf the procedure wasn't as bad as expected either. Only needed the gas and air once.

So you may be lucky! :)

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 10/06/2019 19:13

I have had a few colonoscopies and endoscopies thanks to my Crohn's disease. My favourite one was when I came round and they were still doing it. I was a bit out of it and pointed at the screen and said 'what's that is it cancer'? The bloke doing it said 'no that's carrot so you didn't do your food prep properly did you?'. I shut up then! The nurse was literally snorting!

Discombobulated47 · 10/06/2019 19:14

Good luck OP. Mines on Friday

I had one a couple of weeks ago and it was a different type of prep and much much better than when I did it two years ago. Just a pint in the evening and again the next morning.
My advice is to sip it slowly- I tried to gulp the second dose down quickly to get it over and done with and promptly vomited it all back up whilst in the shower: that was fun Envy it still worked though!

LittleGinBigGin · 10/06/2019 19:48

sparkleandsleep I think we have the same stuff.

Well absolutely nothing so far and it’s been 2 hours 🤷‍♀️ Apart from a lot of pain (which I had already) and I feel a bit sick

OP posts:
Greenglassteacup · 10/06/2019 20:38

Oh no, I don’t like the sound of the new prep! Wonder how long it takes to work. How are you supposed to go to bed?!!
