Do schools still do WW1 trips to France

When I did GCSE a million years ago everyone seemed to do a trip to France. We went to Ypres, the Somme and associated trenches and graves. It formed lasting memories and understanding.

In the last week we have discussed a big family trip to the Normandy beaches.

What age do you think children need to be and are they likely to do such trips later in school? They are currently in the age range 8-12, and we were thinking of next summer - but perhaps a bit early for the younger ones?

Both of mine have been in year 10 in the past four years as a history trip. Both really enjoyed it and it fit with the gcse's syllabus.

Oh, and I know the beaches are WW2! I just mean do children still do trips like that, don’t want to do something they will do later at school. We did WW1 but I understand schools cover WW2 now (which we did not do until A level).

Thanks Dotty. Was that to the beaches or WW1 areas?

I have had too much wine and should have been more coherent in my question!

Yep, every year in year 9. I'm going next month for my 4th visit. It's an amazing visit.

Ds is going in July (year 8) to Belgium (Ypres).

Dd went to Ypres in year 8 as well.

DS went with his football team and played in an international competition relating to the Christmas truce in 1914 during WW1.

My DD went in Y8. I had been planning on going as a family but the trip came up and all her friends were going...
