Why am I always hungry?

I'm edging up into a size 14. I'm 5'5. Breastfeeding a year old baby a few times a day. Sleep is OK. Had egg and toast for breakfast, fruit and a bit of baguette for lunch, a packet of crisps and a slice of fruit loaf about mid afternoon, a lean lamb steak with roast potatoes and plenty of veg for dinner. Some days I eat more, some less. I probably eat a bit too much sugar at times. I skip breakfast a lot, but I really struggle to eat in the morning before work.

Even when I've eaten a really big dinner, I am hungry half an hour later. I rarely feel full or satisfied any more, yet I'm obviously bigger than I ideally should be, so what gives?

More fibre in your diet?

Teachermaths · 09/06/2019 20:56

Lots of carbs and not much protein.

More nuts, meat etc.

Are you thirsty? Have a drink when you think you're hungry.

Yep, you need more protein and good fats.

Tolleshunt · 09/06/2019 20:57

Breastfeeding does that to me.

OK, I did think eggs and lamb would have been enough, but I'm not a huge meat eater and I feel like my sense of what's normal has been screwed up by pregnancy - I had terrible hyperemesis for months. What would be the best/most convenient way of getting more protein?

My go to is always nuts tbh.

Oats, yoghurt, milk too.

I don't think protein is the problem, I often find I am hungry a lot.
What works for me is less snacking and eating lots of fruit and veg, especially fruit and plain yoghurt after a meal or for breakfast.
It really fill me up and stops me wanting so much bread /cake/ biscuits.Smile

If you're "edging" up to a size 14, you're not really very big are you? Just a few pounds over.... just cut the carbs a bit? Toast, baguette, crisps and fruit loaf is probably a bit much.
