Anyone else part of a couple where neither has a hobby?! (lighthearted)?!

So, I know we've had many posts about these mythical hobbies that many posters and their husbands have!

Are we the only couple who don't?! I'm a sahm, I potter about in the day doing shopping, cooking, housework, surf the net, watch telly. I go out occasionally with friends for a drink or meal.

Oh works, comes home, we chat, watch tv, I make dinner. He goes out to the pub once a week to see his mates.

At the weekends we do chores, go shopping maybe, take kids to park or cinema/bowling, sometimes go out to eat.

Are we very boring?! I always thought most people were like us but judging by these boards, perhaps we are unusual and the majority of people are actually doing exciting things like hanggliding or running marathons every weekend?!

We’re the same, work full time and no hobbies,

BertieBotts · 09/06/2019 11:46

Our "hobbies" are internet trawling and computer games and watching TV...

BertieBotts · 09/06/2019 11:46

DH wants to get a fish tank, and I have a guitar and a DSLR camera, but nothing we do regularly.

goodwinter · 09/06/2019 11:48

We both have hobbies, but not A Hobby in the way it seems to be used on MN. (i.e. all-encompassing, obsessive, to the detriment of other parts of our lives...)

goodwinter · 09/06/2019 11:50

For example I have a free weekend - I'm going to be walking the dog, cross-stitching/embroidering, cooking and baking, listening to podcasts. I don't have anything that I spend all my free time on!

woodcutbirds · 09/06/2019 11:52

@goodwinter surely cross-stitching and embroidery count as A Hobby. That's a proper a hobby as it gets.

ffs74 · 09/06/2019 11:58

Neither of us have hobbies. We've got a wide circle of friends with an array of hobbies, running, cycling, baking, dressmaking etc but not us.
I like pottering around the house, going to the pub, just hanging out with the dcs watching films etc
I'm a bit of a simple creature really Grin

goodwinter · 09/06/2019 12:04

@woodcutbirds Yeah, they're both hobbies! I just mean often on MN posts there's the mysterious "Hobby", as in "my DH is constantly off doing his hobby", which often seems to either involve 4 days out of the house every week and/or every single second of free time.

TwinklyMummaLuvsHerBubba89 · 09/06/2019 12:09

No, we don't live together and we are each other's social lives because we see each other twice a week fitting other people in around children and work is pretty impossible.

I do crochet and OH is obsessed with comic books, but neither of those hobbies require time away from the house (other than trips to bookstores and craft shops!)

SystolicSyster · 09/06/2019 12:12

I'm not sure where you draw the line between a hobby and a "thing I do that I like". Eg. people often mention reading or gaming as hobbies, but watching TV, podcasts, and listening to music seems to on the other side of the vague line?

LarryGreysonsDoor · 09/06/2019 12:13

I don’t know what these mysterious hobbies are either.

I garden, that’s my hobby really. I certainly don’t do one of these hobbies that involves going away for days on end.
I notice that these weekend away type hobbies only seem to be done by men with a number of small children.

WhiteLightTrainWreck · 09/06/2019 12:14

I think you're perfectly normal. Oh and I work full time, come home from work, I cook dinner and he'll maybe go to the gym. We eat, he plays pc games, I read/watch tv/mm. Weekends we tend to stay in bed until lunchtime, Saturday we do hw, Sunday I do the food shop, again he might go to the gym. We visit parents at the weekend too. I think our lives will probably change a little soon, as dc1 is due in 5 weeks.

If you're happy, don't worry about it.

bebeboeuf · 09/06/2019 12:15

No hobbies here.

If we had the money my hobby would be hornby model trains.

DH would take up an instrument or model airplane building

MamaRaisingBoys · 09/06/2019 12:53

No hobbies here. Don’t have the time or the money but tbf can’t think of anything I’d like to do anyway

I enjoy baking/reading/meals out/concerts/theatre/travelling/visiting nt places but I don’t think any of that really counts

Needallthesleep · 09/06/2019 14:28

This really confuses me. I have several ‘hobbies’, so does my DH. I can’t imagine a life without them. Do you not exercise? How do you de stress?

MiraculousMarinette · 09/06/2019 14:32

These hobbies people go on about are usually cycling, gym, footie, drama classes, language classes, book clubs etc. I don't know why they have to be put across as heavily guarded secrets here.

ruddynorah · 09/06/2019 14:34

I'm in a rugby team, he's in a football team, ditto the DC. That takes some weekend time up. I get bored if I stay in too much
We like hill walking, visiting new places etc. Hate days out shopping and avoid leaving chores til the weekend.
