Advice - is it well meaning words of wisdom or being told what to do?

I've been in a situation this week where I have asked my friends for advice. Friend A has been gentle and kind and told me what she thinks I should do. Friend B has also been kind but has told me what I have to do. I've taken on board what they have both said, and come to my own conclusions and action but Friend B is now annoyed with me because I didn't do what she told me to do. She's entitled to her opinion on my situation but surely advice is just that, a personal view on how someone should act? No judgement on either friend wanted but it has left me curious about how other people feel about the advice they give or receive.

I give advice with the view that it will probably be ignored!!

I advise in my job role and the first rule of advice is that the recipient has to be free not to take it!
