Are captioned performances in theatres distracting?

I want take DH to the theatre for his birthday. I've noticed that this is the evening that they have their captioned performance. I've never been to a captioned performance so wondering how distracting this is. Does anyone have any experience of such performances?

Hello, it is only distracting if you let it be. The couple I’ve been to (not on purpose) have been really subtle. But I couldn’t help myself but look!

We saw Jersey Boys as a captioned performance & it wasn't distracting at all, in fact it was quite useful during some of the quieter dialogue! It was just on a small screen on stage, obviously clearly visible but in no way distracting. Also saw Mama Mia as a signed/ captioned performance, the signing was amazing. It was audio described too but that was through headphones that you only used if you needed. What was really nice was seeing all kinds of people enjoying the performance. Have a good night!

I use subtitles on everything as I’m deaf so obviously I am biased but I don’t think they are distracting

You learn the tune it out or rather blend it together

So pleased that there are such positive responses. Think I'll make the booking then. Smile
