upgrade from double bed to king size - is it worth it?

I don't think I can fit a super king in my house, but I'd like to get a bigger bed. DS comes in every night, and practically kicks me out of my double, do you think that a king size would make enough difference to make it worth it?

We've got a king and we've been looking at super kings. I sleep in the spare room sometimes and a double is only for one person, god knows how we ever managed with two people squashed in one.

PseuDenim · 08/06/2019 18:39

Super king all to myself here - it’s absolute utter bliss, especially with clean ironed white bedlinen.....

seven201 · 08/06/2019 18:40

We switched to king about 4 years ago. I wish we had room for super-king. Never underestimate the amazing of space small children can take up!

Fuck yes. I can starfish in the middle of mine and not touch the sides.

Slydiad · 08/06/2019 18:41

Yes, I wouldn't make it difficult to get around the rest of the bedroom, but if you have the space, it's definitely worth it. DH was the one who wanted a big bed. I thought I didn't really care, but the extra space is so nice.

magneticmumbles · 08/06/2019 18:41

Not worth it- get a super king.

Sexnotgender · 08/06/2019 18:42

Yes!

I know it’s only an extra couple of inches but it makes a massive difference.

teacherspet · 08/06/2019 18:52

Oh my God, YES!!!

petrocellihouse · 08/06/2019 18:55

I have a super king all to myself. I love it! 😬

Wellthatwastricky · 08/06/2019 19:23

We have a "small super king" less wide that a normal super king but bigger than king size. Bought from warren evans who obviously don't exist anymore but other places might do them. Best decision ever.

Teddybear45 · 08/06/2019 19:24

Yes, huge difference

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 08/06/2019 19:26

Yes! Next bed I get will be a super king. I would go as big as you can!

MustardScreams · 08/06/2019 19:32

Get a super king! I have one just for me, and sometimes toddler dd if she wants a cuddle. Best thing I ever bought, although it does make getting up in the morning hideously painful! And changing the duvet covers are a nightmare. But so worth it.

Talcott2007 · 08/06/2019 19:33

Absolutely going for the biggest bed you can fit/afford

flumaflower · 08/06/2019 19:35

thanks everyone, I think I have had my arm twisted :)

I don't think I can fit a superking in but I will check.

If I do end up with a normal king size, do you think I should get a superking size duvet, as it will hang over the edge more luxuriously than a king size?? I have a feeling going up a size on the linen and duvet will look better!

Yes!!

BuildBuildings · 08/06/2019 19:40

Yes

HighlandWorrier · 08/06/2019 19:46

Hell yeah best thing we did was upgrading from king to superking, especially beneficial for my 6ft 4 tall husband. You won't regret going bigger Wink

Rory4Leader · 08/06/2019 19:47

Super king sized beds are really naff.

Don't do it. Unless you can pay a housekeeper to change the ridiculously massive sheets. Or you're fairly large. Or your room is large.

HighlandWorrier · 08/06/2019 19:50

Rory changing the sheets isn't such a big deal once you get the hang of it. Just like anything in life the more you do it the easier it becomes.

MitziK · 08/06/2019 19:58

Absolutely.

Nothing beats being able to splodge out in summer without coming into contact with another warm body (yuk) - DP feels the same.

DTwatCats quite like having their own space, too - the only time they both actively seek us out is midwinter when we're bundled up together in the middle, and even then, they steal some heat by sleeping beside us, rather than on us.

SmarmyMrMime · 08/06/2019 19:58

I hate it if I have to share a double bed with DH. Especially if it's soft and I just roll down into him and get hot and sticky. Bleugh.

I'm not a fan of over-sized bedding as I like to be able to protroud limbs for temperature control. DH disagrees.

CitadelsofScience · 08/06/2019 20:04

flower we just have the same size bedding for the bed, I like being able to pull the covers over me if I'm having a night sweat situation and I'm fairly sure my sweaty husband doesn't want a double duvet on him Grin
