If I have a square piece of card which is 13.9cm what sized envelopes should I buy? 14cm square or to be safe 15cm square? Thank you.

Depends how thick the card is.

Fair point! It's a single printed piece of card. The thickness of a postcard.

Boring update. I went for 150mm and it was perfect.
