Child benefit claim help please

I'm finally getting round to applying for child benefit for my baby and I'm a bit confused. Loads of sites say I need to send birth certificate in with application, but I think the form says I don't need to because he was born in England.

Can anybody advise please?

You can do it over the phone, they ask for a reference number from the birth certificate
