Towns that fit the bill

Looking to relocate to the UK in the next year or so. Looking for appropriate towns that fit the bill... can anyone help?

-Within 90 minutes of London driving
-Racially tolerant
-Near a town or city centre with loads to do (30 mins drive or less)
-ideally in a historical village but not necessarily

Budget is £500k, ideally want a 4 bed detached but would consider 3 bed if spacious.

Any ideas?

Probably look at Northamptonshire. There is a great variety of housing and good transport. Local authority finances are some concern though.

If you’re willing to accept Milton Keynes as the town within 30 mins drive, then there are plenty of good options. Somewhere like Olney might suit you.

Second for Olney have only visited once but thought it a lovely pretty town.

From near bath is nice, fun and arty. Bath is around 2 hrs from London, not sure if Frome might be closer.

Somewhere like Petersfield on the Hampshire/Surrey/West Sussex border?
Think London driving is about 90m, fast train is an hour into Waterloo.
Half hour from Portsmouth, Chichester, Winchester, and Guildford. Historic and pretty market town.

Some of South Leicestershire / North Warwickshire is very nice.

Cotswolds type area might do, although unsure if you will find anything suitable in your housing budget and it doesn't have loads to do unless you like walking / nature.

Whereabouts in London do you want to reach in 90 minutes?

Getting to Leicestershire (even the south) would probably be over 2 hours from all but north London - as you add a lot just doing the more central London bit. So if we know which side of them you want to reach, it might give a better idea of what is within your preferred travel radius

Northamptonshire has some lovely villages, the town centre in Northampton itself isn't amazing but you do have cinemas, lots of shops, swimming pools, plenty of restaurants. Trains take around 60 minutes to centre of London, easy access to Birmingham, Oxford etc. Lots of lovely countryside, parks, walks etc.

Northamptonshire or Leicestershire? Market Harborough may fit the bill, it's 55 mins to London by train and depending on traffic 90 mins by car. The further north the more your budget will stretch.

Abingdon in Oxfordshire. Only 15 min drive to Oxford. Just over an hour to drive into London or it’s 40 mins on the train from nearby Didcot. It’s also lovely.
