I am in training for a position I earned as part of an "award of excellence" I received through my studies. I am an engineering student, having returned to school after 25 years in the "real world".
The rest of the training candidates are summer student employees as well, just not here via the same route, and we will be doing different jobs once the standard safety training is complete.
There were supposed to be 11 candidates in this group (I was the 11th added last minute). There are only 6 here. The other 5 just did not show at all.
The HR rep I was talking to said they had to go through interview etc to get this far, but "ghosting" - being interviewed and accepting a position, or even completing training, but never showing up again or returning calls or emails is becoming more and more common.
What on earth has happened? I hate to say "in my day..." but this would never have happened.
