Lidl just opened near me what is it like for meat veg and wine?
Anything I should avoid or definitely buy?

I kitted myself out twice over in cycling gear from the middle isle! Saved me as much as I have spent on random stuff I didn't need... Grin

The whole chickens are good, the breasts we had last week not so much - all water and weird texture. But if they have the free range stuff on, that's fine. The steaks are far superior to Tesco's posh stuff IMO. The cold/deli and red meats are all good too. The pork and beef mix mince is great for lasagne, burger or meatball type dishes.

The veg is generally fine if you pick the non-grotty stuff. Fruit can be a bit hit and miss but they do the very best blueberries I've come across.

The bakery is absolute carbohydrate heaven.

Lidl is torturous. They place the bakery right at the front so you have to drool your way past while fighting the inner voice that is screaming FEED ME TOFFEE FILLED YUM YUMS UNTIL I CHOKE!

But after that it's great. Prefer the new one near me to Aldi now. Good veg, lasts a long time (except 1 rouge lettuce I got that was rotten in the middle). Good meat. The coconut greek yoghurt it to die for. Not bought wine but they have a brilliant alcohol selection and do some bloody lovely flavoured gins.

We love the mayonnaise, French cheeses, pasta, free range chicken, Aberdeen Angus steak, Magnum style ice creams, sliced bread, red wine (even the really cheap stuff), herbal tea, cooking oil, deluxe tomatoes, skyr and Greek yogurt, shortbread and crackers.
We aren't so keen on the pesto, pasta sauce, ketchup or tinned soups.

The tinned coconut milk is thick, creamy and can be spooned out onto fruit or puddings. My local health food place charges a fortune for coconut cream.

Blue bag Muesli
Tomato juice
Gazpacho
Cheeses
Kalamata olive oil during Greek week
Lots of other tasty things during the country themed weeks!
