Last breastfeed last night - hooray!

Had got down to one evening feed and was looking forward to dropping it to get my body back to myself not to mention my sex drive but last night the milk had already gone. DS settled well after a cuddle.

End of an era after 2x 11 months and generally fine but latterly it had been so painful for hours afterwards. DS eats like a champion so no worries there. Goes bra shopping

Well done! I've finished feeding recently too I hated it, so I've treated myself to a child free holiday next week. Can't wait. No more leaky boobs!

Fakenametodayhey · 05/06/2019 09:32

How did your molk stop at 11 months?
Still feeding my 4 yo and have loads of milk? Sorry if this is insensitive but you are happy so not really worrying about takimg offence.

Dinosforall · 05/06/2019 09:43

I don't know fakename but I assume going down to two feeds tipped the hormonal balance for me. Two days ago I had plenty of milk, last night nothing.

Sorry that should read one feed

@Fakenametodayhey it all depends how often you're feeding and on your hormone levels.

Whoops75 · 05/06/2019 09:48

Congratulations.

I found when I made the decision my body did the rest. It’s like I knocked off the breastfeeding signals. I didn’t produce as much and like you weaned much faster than expected.

Enjoy the bra shopping 🛒

Peachesandcream14 · 05/06/2019 09:52

I stopped breastfeeding almost a year ago and I can still express a bit of milk sometimes, you're lucky it's dried up so quickly! Enjoy bra shopping, though I'd leave it a bit as my breasts shrunk pretty rapidly on stopping feeding and I would have wasted a lot of money had I rushed out.

Dinosforall · 05/06/2019 10:08

Peachesandcream14 yes they were quite sad after the last time (I have always been flat-chested) so I'm expecting even worse this time around

Well done you. I ended my second round (1st 16 months, 2nd 14 months) not long ago and I have done a bra shopping spree, feels amazing.

Oh and now I can have a glass of wine with DH BEFORE bedtime as I don't have to nurse at that time anymore.

Enjoy the freedom!

jackolantern · 05/06/2019 10:24

Just finished here too! 16 month old dc2. Dc1 self-weaned at about 10 months, just refused to feed, so I never had the choice before.
This time I'd dropped down to just one feed then had to be away one day so dh gave cow's milk with no problem for a few days. When I tried it poor dc2 got confused and upset and signed for milk. I let him try but there was none and he was then happy to go and have breakfast. Today I tried same again he was upset mummy milk was all gone but had a cuddle, go on his dummy then a bit of milk from cup and seemed ok. It's definitely time and I also need new bras!

jackolantern · 05/06/2019 10:26

Weird that cumulatively I've been breastfeeding for over 2 years!

Dinosforall · 05/06/2019 12:25

Thanks all! It's a nice feeling. Congratulations to those in the same boat.

jackolantern I hear you.

I’ve recently finished my breastfeeding ‘journey’.

I counted it up over my DC and it comes to over 17 years! It better bloody protect me from cancer or I want my money back Smile

kaytee87 · 05/06/2019 12:48

@QueenArseClangers wow! How many kids do you have? (sorry, I'm nosey!)

QueenArseClangers · 05/06/2019 18:18

Four Grin

Poetryinaction · 05/06/2019 18:33

Queen beat me but I finished feeding dc3 last week. She is 15mo. I have been either pregnant or breastfeeding almost continuously for the past six years and so glad to be done. My periods returned instantly and my baby finally sleeps through!

kaytee87 · 05/06/2019 18:39

@QueenArseClangers you're a legend Grin it must feel odd to have your boobs 'back'.

Wow Queen !
Ha I was very miffed when ebf DS1 developed food allergies. That wasn't part of the deal

Me too just finished bf 15month old #3. I did 13 mo, 14 mo, 15 mo. I also experienced that thing of my body almost making the decision for me. I'm ready but a little engorged at the moment, it's been about 3 days since I fed. Dc was up for hours last night (normally she sleeps through about 5 nights out of 7) and I made Dh deal with it in case she got an idea to feed again.

It's a funny feeling knowing I won't have to factor bf into what I'm wearing etc. Ever again! Cannot imsgine 17 yrs!
Well done to us all, it hasn't always been easy .

HavelockVetinari · 05/06/2019 18:58

Oh this is a good thread to read. I'm having to wean DS (almost 2) due to IVF (this is our third go at a sibling, suspect the bf is stopping implantation). I'm gutted! I shall henceforth think positively of all the lovely La Perla I will buy.

RedCrab · 05/06/2019 19:36

I’m really close to finishing my third and final breastfeeding phase. I feel pretty sad, to be honest! With my first two, there was the luxury of assuming there’d always be another baby coming along. That third baby was two in April so we’re well and truly out of the baby phase of our lives now, and it’s incredibly bittersweet!

Trying to focus on the positives :)

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 05/06/2019 19:40

I hear ya! Just finished bf a month ago (DC 14 months when I stopped). I miss it in a nostalgia way, but I'm glad also. The pretty bras came back out last night!

QueenArseClangers · 05/06/2019 21:36

I remember, pre children, witnessing a woman breastfeeding her toddler and thinking ‘I’d never do that!’

Ha! What a dick I was! Grin
