Done Claridges & The Ritz, looking for somewhere as fantastic as Claridges (or an excuse to go back to Claridges...Wink )

Any ideas gratefully received!

I really like Browns in Albemarle Street. Not the other Browns of which there are several - it's got to be that one! Not as huge as Claridges or the Ritz, but I prefer it.
There's often a pianist and they replenish very generously!

Thank you!

This time last year we went to The Berkeley for a non-traditional afternoon tea (it didn't have scones) which was fabulous. It was a reward for DD's effort in her exams/revision so far. We really enjoyed it and the food was excellent.

Sanderson

GlamGiraffe · 04/06/2019 19:01

Don't go to the Savoy. Horrible with tacky loud pianist and singer and awful service. The landmark has lovely cakes!

Throughabushbackwards · 04/06/2019 19:01

Browns is good and I've been to quite a few others but none will ever beat Claridges IMO.

Verite1 · 04/06/2019 19:02

I agree. Once you have been to claridges, the others are always going to be second best.

fancynancyclancy · 04/06/2019 19:03

Not been yet but it caught my eye

The Sanderson is good

In summer, Montague on the Gardens does a lovely one on the terrace.

And for something a bit different, Ampersand in South Ken does a science themed afternoon tea.

Claridges is bloody amazing isn’t it! We’ve been 3 times but now I think DM would like a change for her birthday Wink

Thanks all! Will check them all out

The Landmark Hotel. We had our wedding afternoon tea reception there, the food is outstanding but it's also the setting, a huge glass atrium with palm trees indoors! Beautiful. Live music too, we had a harpist at our reception.

Daffodil2018 · 04/06/2019 19:16

I loved the Mad Hatter themed tea at the Sanderson. Otherwise Fortnums or Sketch are both great.

HavelockVetinari · 04/06/2019 19:18

I bloody love Claridges! Nowhere compared.

HavelockVetinari · 04/06/2019 19:18

*compares

Sketch was cool! Although that was the place I discovered I have a pretty serious caviar intolerance (talk about a drama queen Grin )!

£60! For cake and tea in a chintzy dinning hall.....blimey.

AuntieMarys · 04/06/2019 20:19

Don't go to the Soho hotel

redbedheadd · 04/06/2019 20:33

I really like Sketch for Afternoon Tea - it's so different and quirky but amazing standard too. It's oxford street / Mayfair way. They do unlimited teas and the tea expert comes over all the time to advise. Took my brother who loves tea and he has about 5 types! They had lovely orchestra music too.

If you want gaudy amazing setting I like the Oscar Wilde Room at Cafe Royale Piccadilly.

redbedheadd · 04/06/2019 20:34

Oh just saw you've been to sketch whoops!

The only other one I've been to is in that big hotel on park lane. They were doing unlimited champagne for a set price and me and DP ended up absolute pissed off our faces at 3pm in the afternoon. Very funny afternoon.

redbedheadd · 04/06/2019 20:40

Sorry me again! The Langham was lovely too. Though I think cafe royale was a bit more wow !

IHeartArya · 04/06/2019 20:43

My favourite is the Langham. Think it beats claridges. Shangri-la for the amazing views.

Berkeley tea is fun. Didn’t rate the sanderson. Sketch is great but you’ve been.

Not the connaught. Dorchester not bad. Corinthia so so. Going to cafe royal next week so will report back. The Rosewood isn’t bad. Lanesborough is ok.

IHeartArya · 04/06/2019 20:45

Or if you want something completely different the brunch is fab!

mumslave · 04/06/2019 20:51

Fortnums, Fortnums, Fortnums - great value for money, more food than you can possibly eat (but you get to take what you don’t eat home in a beautiful box including the jam and lemon curd!), savoury and sweet options and you aren’t hurried from the table. I have had many afternoon teas in London but this is definitely the best there is.

Cafelatte2go · 04/06/2019 20:53

The Langham if you have children with you :)

HermioneWeasley · 04/06/2019 20:57

The Wellesley- beautiful 5 star Art Deco hotel on Hyde Park Corner, but because it’s next to the Lanesborough their afternoon tea is ‘only’ £35 and quality is fab
