I joined Meet Up and joined a few groups that supposedly meet in my local area.
Quickly found one was made up of ridiculous, 'new age-y', woo believers and left, another one was pleasant enough, but over two hours travel away, a third said they were local, but kept meeting up two counties away, another was a vehicle for a new age 'therapist' to ply her trade and get people deep breathing and performing mindfulness routines and a lot were MLM, property and investment scams.
I ended up a member of three different groups.
Due to my odd, mainly evening and night shifts, I have managed to go to one meet up for each group.
Tonight, I've logged into my emails to find that I've been dumped from one for 'non-participation'.

Join Meet-Up, they said. It'll be good they said. You'll meet loads of new people they said......
