Does summer uniform exist for most, or is it usually just "you can take off your blazer now"?
TIA

DD has long sleeved shirts in the winter and short sleeved ones in the summer, that's it.

HypatiaCade · 03/06/2019 22:57

Polo shirt in summer - 3rd term only.

Rockbird · 03/06/2019 22:59

School DD1 is headed to doesn't have summer uniform but if it gets super hot they're allowed to wear their PE kits to school. Otherwise it's jumper and blazer.

Blazers off here - if the class teacher allows

Sometimes the head decides no ties

ASauvignonADay · 03/06/2019 23:01

Blazers off and optional PE kit if really hot

FogCutter · 03/06/2019 23:04

Only difference at ds's high school is that shorts can be worn in summer - but only the shorts supplied by the very traditional uniform supplier they use to supply blazers.

Not one child in that school has ever worn shorts Grin

No blazers in term 3 for DS2.

DS1 didn’t have blazers at all but they were allowed to take off their jumper and tie and roll their sleeves up if the headteacher rang a certain bell.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 03/06/2019 23:09

It has to be boiling before our dc are allowed to take their blazers off in secondary.

Singleandproud · 03/06/2019 23:10

Blazers off at my school possibly ties if we are experiencing a heat wave, but they have to wear them moving around the school.

Whilst there are often MN threads about the need for a summer uniform in secondary (I agree, blazers in the summer is ridiculous) most students don't actually want to take their blazers off - they prefer to complain about the heat wearing their blazers instead despite the temperature getting up to 30 degrees C.

TreacherousPissFlap · 03/06/2019 23:16

Blazers off in a heatwave, DS has been allowed to take his tie off once I think Grin

LucidDream · 03/06/2019 23:18

Ours aren't allowed to take their blazers off unless it's roasting, and even then only in class, they still have to wear them between lessons Hmm

stucknoue · 03/06/2019 23:27

Didn't have them 39 years ago either, it was the same then as now, blazers off and no need to wear tights

Punxsutawney · 03/06/2019 23:38

Ds attends an all boys state secondary school. They are allowing boys to wear school shorts this half term. The school council petitioned for it last year. The boys are meant to wear their ties and suit jackets with the shorts. I can't see it being popular to be honest. They are a very old fashioned school and I have been less than impressed with them. I have a feeling they are doing this to make themselves look progressive and understanding of the kids, they are not at all, almost the opposite most of the time. I've seen secondary age boys in Australia wearing shorts which is understandable in their heat. Not so much in the UK.

Passtherioja · 03/06/2019 23:41

DD has to wear her blazer regardless of the heat-they sometimes get told they can take them off in class but permission has to come from the head!! ☀️☀️🔥🔥

How times have changed. When I was at school we had cotton dresses as part of our uniform, regulation of course. We were allowed to not wear our blazers.

My son had short sleeved shirts in summer, jolly nice they looked too, all crisp, with epaulettes, but they had to wear ties at all times and blazer when travelling to and from school.

Bluerussian · 03/06/2019 23:46

PS: I forgot that I had to wear a straw hat in summer (velour in winter).

JasperTheFriendlyGhost · 03/06/2019 23:47

DD’s school has the shirt, tie, jumper and blazer for first and second terms but in third term they can wear poloshirts with the school logo on.

Starlight456 · 03/06/2019 23:52

Love that my son goes to a none uniform school.

He wears clothes appropriate to the weather.
