Finally found the ring I want and OH is going I pick it up this week. We're going to the Caribbean next week so I know it's coming but I feel awful that I know so I'm trying to forget it.

Yep my first husband, because I told him we were getting engaged!

I think the vast majority of people these days 'know' in that they have had a sensible adult conversation with their OH about getting married, and many like you have picked their own ring. I don't think it stops you having a romantic 'proposal' moment if you still want that . DH and I skipped the engagement part and went straight to getting married though, so technically I'd have to say no to your question.

In fact, the only people I know who had a genuinely surprise moment with no forewarning, it was either way too early and therefore a bit of a red flag, or they'd been together ages and hadn't ever expected to get married, so in some ways not a great thing, your way is much better! Enjoy your hols!
