Washing machine keeps chewing up my bras!!

Help! Just most yet another underwire bra to the washing machine!
Does everyone else hand wash bras or have any trick to stop them getting chewed up? I put them in one of those zipper pouches but that doesn’t stop it happening

Washbags. They're about £3 in Sainsburys.

I wad about to suggest a laundry bag but you already use one. Do you fasten the bra? Are they cheap ones?

Place them inside a pillowcase.

LazyFace · 02/06/2019 13:29

Sorry, I just fully read your post, I realised you used them already.
Not sure where you get your bras from but it might be a quality issue.

fedup21 · 02/06/2019 13:30

What is happening to them inside the zipper pouch?

I’ve never had a thing happen to my bras in the washing machine and I rarely even bother with the bag Blush

DaisyDando · 02/06/2019 13:31

This happens to me too. I hadn’t thought of closing them before washing. I am sad about it but not sad enough to hand wash.

DelurkingAJ · 02/06/2019 13:38

My cheaper bras go in the machine and last a couple of years. My much more expensive ones I hand wash and last forever...I’ve accepted that expensive is the way forward as cheap is false economy and have enough to wear one a day but hand wash once a week.

EvaHarknessRose · 02/06/2019 13:43

I handwash

Bamaluz · 02/06/2019 13:48

You need a special laundry bag with plastic ends to stop them getting mangled

here

BernardoTeashop · 02/06/2019 13:49

They are always M&S as that’s the only range that I find fit properly. They are always in the round zipper thing but have chewed through two so far
Think I will just have to hand wash from here in in
Do you use any particular liquid for washing them?

OP posts:
borntobequiet · 02/06/2019 13:50

I always handwash, they last for years.

BernardoTeashop · 02/06/2019 13:51

Chewed right though the pouch

I always do.them up at the back ( saves metal bits getting caught up) and wash them in a pillowcase. So far so good

listsandbudgets · 02/06/2019 13:54

Like you did try zipper bags but pillow case seems to do a better job for me at least

dementedpixie · 02/06/2019 13:54

I use these bags. I never hand wash and my bras survive ok

dementedpixie · 02/06/2019 13:56

Looks like it got caught between the rubber seal and the drum. Do you wash them with other items

kaytee87 · 02/06/2019 13:57

I don't use laundry bags and have never had a bra ruined in the washing machine.
Are you over or under loading the machine maybe?

TheBestSuperheroIsSpideman · 02/06/2019 13:57

I get in the shower with mine at the end of the day and wash them that way. Is that gross? It seems efficient to me Grin

Rememberallball · 02/06/2019 19:14

What temperature are you washing them at? It’s possible the wire is getting hot and damaging the fabric. I have always just thrown my bras into the machine with an appropriate coloured wash on 40c and they last forever.
