Do Lidl throw your shopping at you like Aldi do?

I'm considering doing a shop at Lidl with my baby and can't face it if they are going to rush me through like they do at Aldi?

Yes, the one in the town near me does. I was feeling quite stressed recently and went there at 5:30 on a Friday evening for a few bits. About halfway around I realised how much stuff I had in my basket and how busy the store was and suddenly felt overwhelmed at the thought of the pressure of the packing and the expectations of the people in the queue and am ashamed to say that I abandoned my basket mid shop.

It's only a problem if you insist on packing at the tills as you would in Tesco, which just creates stress all round. And holds everyone else up

So the people complaining here about being rushed while they are busy packing at the till are actually doing it wrong, just as I suspected.

You will always get at least one arrogant individual who can't join the dots up. If you want to pack at the tills at your own leasure then go somewhere where the prices reflect that.

But no, 'i won't be intimidated' while the entire queue stares at you wankily packing at the till, holding the entire thing up thinking dark violent thoughts
YY to that, Gamerchick

..let's just remind ourselves when we are being insulted or harassed or hurried by a Lidl or even Aldi employee.
They would not exist without us.
The customer.

Yet somehow they have managed to become the fastest growing grocery chain in the US, so apparently there are some customers somewhere in the world who understand how to shop there and have no objections to just getting with the programme.

If you can keep up then fab, if you can't. Pack at the shelf and stop being a knob

👆This.

I love the speed. Absolutely hate going to a place where it is slow. I can do a weeks shop for 5 of us in under 20 mins if there is no queue.

BlueSkiesLies · 03/06/2019 07:56

BUT if those aldi assistants try to get whizzy with my stuff I just strike and go slower than you can imagine. I survey my bags. Look at my items, they complain so I say sorry, you've thrown so much stuff at me at once it's not possible to manage, if they get huffy I say I call the manager to help me

Let me paraphrase this for you “I’m a selfish twat who thinks they are more important than everyone else, and I’m also a petty bitch and try to get people in trouble for doing their job”

You aren’t meant to pack at the till. Just refill your trolley and pack afterwards. Or put two ones bags in your trolley and dump everything into those.

What Aldi do you shop in ?
I've never had that experience.
The queues at the tills in the ones I go to at different locations in Dublin to are always soo long Sad. It's the same in Lidl. There aren't enough staff.

Rm29 · 03/06/2019 12:32

My Aldi in newross co Wexford. Lidl is just up the road from it but I don't like it the staff are not friendly they just want you out and get to the next customer. Where Aldi staff will talk to you while checking u out I was never rushed at checkouts in Aldi or shopping threw at me if there was a few items on the checkout they would help put them in the trolly.

beanaseireann · 03/06/2019 12:57

That's nice Rm29.
Obviously New Ross is a smallish town and locals would know each other, perhaps that explains the helpfulness of Aldi staff there.
Doesn't explain the unhelpful was of Lidl staff there though.
I have to say the staff in both Aldi and Lidl where I shop - different locations and occasionally- are nice.
