Sales assistant response

Today dh and we I were walking through town when we saw a nice little boutique. There was a dress in the window and dh commented that he liked it. We stopped outside and I said it was nice but looked too low cut. Anyhow the sales assistant saw us and shouted to us to come in and look round so we thought why not. It was a nice shop and the assistant encouraged us to have a look around. She then said all the clothes were individual and the beauty of it is that nobody else would be wearing the same clothes. Anyhow as she had seen us looking at the dress she told me to try it on saying you could always change the belt and if it's too low you can stitch it up a bit.
I thought why not.
Tried the dress on but realised I had misread the price tag and it was far too expensive for me.
It was indeed too low cut and made me feel too booby. I opened the changing room door and as I showed dh there she was, gushing over how great I looked in it. I said I felt too self conscious in it and though a fab dress it wasn't something I felt comfortable in.
She then said "oh with heels and your hair and make up done you would look fantastic."
The thing is I had done my hair and make up!

To be fair another woman tried on a similar style dress and came out saying the same as me about it making her feel too booby. The last she was with said it was nice but she had seen her look better in other dresses. The assistant then gave her a different belt to try with it.

I took the dress off, thanked the assistant but said I wasn't going to buy it.
Her response was to grab the dress and say Hmmm well it's no skin off my nose! "

Dh didnt hear this or the comments about my hair and make up neither did he know the price of the dress. When I told him he thought she was very rude and said there is nothing wrong with how you look.
He also agreed it was expensive.

I understand she wants to make a sale but blimey this seemed a strange response.
