Your ideas for community facilities

Our local area has around £200,000 of funding for community services. They have asked for suggestions on how to spend it. There is a recently disused school building that may be able to be repurposed. \

It’s an area of young families, quite affluent. We are lucky enough to have good parks and a community cafe in our church.

Anyone have any community facilities that they really appreciate?

Can I ask where the money has come from? I'm guessing it's an example of poorly calculated funding at government level, where affluent areas have more than enough yet councils in poor areas are heading towards bankruptcy and cutting essential services.

I would say though that £200K won't go far, it's unlikely to be enough to repurpose a large building. Also do they have funds to keep any initiative going in the long term.

It’s from a local building company and as far as I’m aware it’s in compensation for building ‘too many’ houses on an estate.

A school building will require a lot of upkeep and running costs.

What about Christmas lights in the high street? Helps boost local trade and is an attraction for everyone old and young, disabled and gives a real community feel.

ooh ooh, our town did this recently! I suggested a library of things and it was voted and is now happening! Other things that got voted were book swap boxes dotted around town, a seed library for the allotments, bike / scooter garages for the local schools, street basketball hoops. Can't remember the others off the top of my head but will repost if they come to me.
