Does anyone get massages? What would you recommend for someone who is anxious, has a 7 month old and could use some down time?

If you've found this page in your search of the massage oils that have been recommended by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best massage oils useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ

I hate them- don't like being naked or touched in certain areas

Flowersmakemyday · 01/06/2019 00:11

I love them, even the sports ones I have to help with tension in my neck and shoulders. It's the only time a lie down and do nothing.

ListeningToTheBirds · 01/06/2019 00:15

My DP is a sports massage therapist.
I work out a lot.

I have 1 massage from him in 3 years.
I hate them.

Obviously some people find them incredibly relaxing.
For me & the same money I much rather take myself off to a lovely country pub & sit with a glass of wine in the sun & just be

I love a really good reflexology session.

I have trigger points and after several years of horrible pain have found that monthly deep tissue massage is a life saver! Do you have any muscular problems? If you do, I would consider that but it can be a bit painful at times but to me that is good as it means it is working! Other than that, a light general massage will help. Think it is called a Swedish massage?? Enjoy.

Sorry, just read you are anxious. Maybe consider hot stones and aromatherapy massage. I have found both really helpful and soothing.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 01/06/2019 08:53

Clarins do a nice relaxing aromatics massage.

Often (not always) people that hate massage just haven't found the right therapist. It's quite often a 'tried it once, didn't like it' scenario.

When it comes to massage it's really important to find a therapist that you are comfortable with and that you enjoy the massage from. Not all therapists suit all clients.

Personally I would recommend no hands massage, you can see if there is someone near you at www.nohandsmassage.com. It kind of bridges the gap between relaxation massage and remedial massage, being really pleasurable as well as really effective. Unfortunately my therapist moved away and now I have to travel 50 miles to the nearest one - but its worth it!

Stuckandsad · 01/06/2019 09:03

A hot stone with deep tissue would be perfect for you I think. Looove massages and spas!

Happynow001 · 01/06/2019 10:12

I love a really firm hot stones massage. Unfortunately some salons have moved away from the stones to joined shells (think scallop shells but rounder) which I find useless.

I do sometimes have acupressure massage from a Chinese masseur so very firm massage. Can sometimes be uncomfortable in the spots where muscles are tight eg calf muscles, shoulders & hips) but I yoga-breathe through those. I usually float home on the endorphins afterwards and go straight to sleep.

I also suggest having a nice warm shower before massages so muscles are already warmer/more relaxed before massage. Enjoy! 🌷

I love them. I would have them every week if I could afford to. The harder the better but then I'm a bit of an old toughie.

If you're anxious, I'd suggest an aromatherapy massage. Ask the therapist to choose an oil known to soothe anxiety
