Help ! I need to make a ‘cat’ birthday cake!

My DD (soon to be six) has her heart set on a cat birthday cake. I’ve googled and can’t see any supermarket versions and can’t afford to have one made. I'm ok at making a basic Victoria sponge, but have never decorated a cake in my life! I’ve been on Pinterest but the decorations look crazy difficult. Has anyone got any easy decorating ideas please?

this was literally butter icing, marshmallows for nose and matchmakers for whiskers.

Just do a round cake, pipe some ears eyes nose and whiskers for a cat face. Little kids are easily pleased with any effort you make for them. My m-in-law used to do massively elaborate cakes for my dd, which were appreciated, but one birthday dd confided to me that what she really liked were the cheap Tesco traybakes.

This is easy to do. You simply make two normal round cakes then slice part of one off and that bit becomes the tail and ears. Decorate as required.

I made my daughter a dog birthday cake one year. I just made a chocolate cake and bought some plastic dog figures and stuck them in the top and she loves it!
