Does anyone have them? Have you made a reasonable return on them?

Yes and yes. My parents won £10k in one draw! We average between £50-100 each month.

BertrandRussell · 30/05/2019 18:16

Blimey! You must have loads though- can I ask how much?

Can I be really nosey and ask how much you have in bonds @Imtryingveryhard?

I think you have to have a fair amount in there to get a decent return. Max of 50K allowed per person which means 50,000 chances of your number being picked. I knew someone who had sold their house and was at their parents until their next property could go through, they put the money in premium bonds just in the interim and won 50K!

Terriere · 30/05/2019 18:19

DM had £10K in them for a couple of years, won £25 quid most months but otherwise nowt. The bigger winners always seem to have the maximum £50k invested.

Batshittery · 30/05/2019 18:20

I have £1100 worth and haven't won anything in the last 15 years.
I think it used to be said that if you hold the maximum value, you would get a prize most months for about a year.
The prizes have been reduced a lot I think.

BertrandRussell · 30/05/2019 18:20

I’d forgotten that I had £5 worth from a long time ago and I’ve just discovered I’ve got £100 waiting for me! Thought it might be more fun to put £5000 into them rather than have it sitting earning absolutely nothing in the bank.

I have about £40,000 and win £25 or £50 most months. If bank interest rates were to go up significantly I'd move them, but as interest rates are so dire right now I might as well have the thrill of anticipation! Still waiting for that knock on the door. Wink

funnystory · 30/05/2019 18:26

I have around £15k and last year I got £25 or £50 about either every month or every other month. This year I haven't got anything as yet. I know I'll need the money for a project next year, so planning just to leave it there until then. If you download the app, you'll find out if you've won or not at midnight when the results come out!

APurpleSquirrel · 30/05/2019 18:31

We set up an account for DD, she has about £400 worth & in the 4yrs she's had them she's won 2x £25. Not a bad return considering. We're going to use it to help set up DS's account.

Kez200 · 30/05/2019 18:41

I watch family bonds value 175000. Overall we are on about 1.8 percent which is better than 1.4 which is the prize pot. Individually though, two people have had a 500 win each along with the more usual 25s. They are doing better and the others less so.

FlorenceKettle · 30/05/2019 18:49

Not yet but we are planning to put in 100K - 50K each. I'd be hopeful of some sort of modest return on that

Ribeebie · 30/05/2019 18:50

My dad got me £10 in premium bonds when I was born. Haven't won anything in 30 years!

Soola · 30/05/2019 18:52

My mother has them and wins every month.

I had some and never won anything.

BertrandRussell · 30/05/2019 18:56

Right. I am going to get 5000 quid’s worth tonight (to add to my £5) watch this space!

PhilipMarlowe · 30/05/2019 19:15

You have to have them for a full month, so I think they'll be in 1st July draw, if you buy them today or tomorrow.

Answeringonlyyesorno · 30/05/2019 19:17

I have over 8k in them and win 25 every month or so.

MattMagnolia · 30/05/2019 19:26

I used to have £10k and won, usually £25, about 6 times a year.
Last year I cashed them in then bought another £20k in January. I haven’t won a penny from this lot yet. The number of prizes has been greatly reduced.

TheRLodger · 30/05/2019 19:39

I’ve got £20 a couple of times.

On the day of my dgms funeral my dgf got a letter saying that he’d won a significant amount. Can’t remember exactly how much but enough to go on an exotic holiday. We like to think it was a final gift from his wife.

Deadposhtory · 30/05/2019 19:39

My sister had one bought in the sixties when she was born and it's won eleven times. She's just had another£25 this week. She always was a lucky sodGrin

Imtryingveryhard · 30/05/2019 21:33

I've got £15k and my husband has £49k (but his money is mine too :) ). Best month for him has been a £175 win. I only bought mine in March 2019 so went in this month's draw and I got £25. Although a £10 investment from 1991 has won me nothing.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 30/05/2019 22:18

We have 20k, given to us on the understanding that any wins are rolled over...

Just put another 150k in

I bloody hope we win something !!!

Hadenoughofitall441 · 30/05/2019 22:39

I have som that my parents got for me when I was born, I’m not sure what to do with it. I check every month for the draw but nothing so far
