Mini break - Scarborough or Bridlington?

Or somewhere else? (within 2 hours drive from Sunderland)

Has to be a Premier Inn due to reasons. I did Scarborough last year and had fun but the parking was expensive and quite stressful! (tiny multi story car park)

Thinking about Bridlington because the Premier Inn has free parking and I've never been (I know its probably a bit more than two hours) Basically it's just for a short break after the stress of uni exams (last one tomorrow yay)

I advise against Scarborough. Went there a few days ago, cut it short it was so absolutely ugly. The castle was nice and North Bay looked ok, in a rather nothing kind of way. Maybe York or Leeds? More to do and much more salubrious.

I actually really like Scarborough but I'm happy wandering along the sea front and don't need the 'bright lights'.

York is a bit too expensive (and I lived there for a few years) and I'm not a fan of Leeds. I want somewhere a bit seaside-y. Thanks though 😀

Scarborough in preference to Bridlington!

Scarborough is shaping up to be £150~ more than Bridlington. Is it worth it?

You could stay in Brid but go up the coast to Filey which is a lovely sea front with a huge car park on the north cliff (with a great little caff). Brid has better beaches than Scarborough but neither are particularly classy - tacky seaside is the general vibe!

Alternatively stay in Scarbados and travel up to Whitby for your day out - still quite tacky in parts and always madly busy but interesting little harbour, some good independent shops and excellent fish and chips almost everywhere (don't bother queuing for the Magpie).

There are some great little spots along the coast, don't confine yourself to the big towns.

I don't mind tacky seaside at all, grew up in Hartlepool so it brings back memories!

I'd second Filey to spend the day, which is not too far from either, much more of a small, old-fashioned seaside town.

Brid is fine if you don't mind tacky seaside.

There's probably more to do in Scarborough, though I prefer the long beach at Bridlington as you can walk for miles and it's very wide.
Brid is a bit run down but there is a harbour, promenade, bit of a town. I like both to be honest.

If staying in Brid you could go up to Flamborough Head or Bempton Cliffs (you'll see puffins/gannets/guillemots at this time of year at Bempton - it's RSPB)

I love Bridlington the beach is fantastic for my asd child never too busy and we like the bus/train you can get into the town from the park and ride. We are off to the Haven Reighton Sands in a few weeks and if the weather is good will probably head to Bridlington beach most days. Have visited Scarborough but prefer Bridlington. Second Filey it is lovely, love Yorkshire so much to do and beautiful beaches.

I know its pretty local being an hour away but what about Redcar, or Saltburn?

Am sure they tick all the boxes for seaside, cheap, not to far away?

Have had many a good time in both places.

Sewerby Hall and Gardens is very close to Bridlington too.

I live in Scarborough but we went to brid last Sunday and saw the newish premier inn. It's a decent location, right off the prom, though brid itself is a bit run down at the moment. It's only half hour to Scarborough though so take the cheaper price, go for daytrips to the places suggested and have a great time!

Make sure you go to Hunmanby Gap cafe - the views and location are insanely beautiful but people don't really know it exists

Robin Hoods Bay is lovely not far from Scarborough or Bridlington

Second the idea of picking a base and trips out to other resorts.

Last time I stayed in Scarborough, the hotels sold a ticket that was £5 that covered parking until mid afternoon the following day for each day you started.

I also like Scarborough and need to go back.

Saltburn is also nice, but probably just for a day. Or you could go north - loads of beaches in Northumberland, or Whitley Bay, North Shields, or Seahouses etc.

Danes Dyke is nearby too, remains of iron age earthworks and nature reserve. Car park, cafe (basic), and there is access to a small beach.

Bridlington gets a really bad press, the bit in the middle is tacky but either side the beaches are fantastic and there's lots to do. What sort of activities do you like to do on your break?

I like to walk and take in the sights, have nice stuff to eat and drink, do a bit of shopping and visit museums and the like.

I'm leaning more towards Bridlington tbh. Scarborough was fun but the parking was a nightmare and super expensive.
