The only one I can think of for myself is "Goodnight Mr Tom", when Zach dies, but especially when Willie has to leave to go back to London Sad

Odd Thomas.

Very slow in parts but worth persevering with.

Absoluteunit · 30/05/2019 16:57

Atonement
My Sister's Keeper

SimplySteveRedux · 30/05/2019 16:58

The DaVinci Code (yes I know it's mostly bollocks) stirred so much emotion, very powerful. Book and film. Blush

swashbucklecheer · 30/05/2019 17:03

Under the hawthorn tree - martina conlon McKenna

Fluffythefish · 30/05/2019 17:06

My sisters Keeper - but tears of rage and frustration as I felt I had been manipulated and hated the end. Had to be quiet ones as it was 2 in the morning and DH was sleeping but boy was I cross
A man called Ove - not to be read on a train
I also gave an involuntary loud cry of shock when reading about the red wedding in the Game of Thrones books (can't remember which one)

Mookie81 · 30/05/2019 17:06

The ending of the Book Theif.
And A Fault in Our Stars; 'lit up like a Christmas tree' 😢

lalahotpants · 30/05/2019 17:12

Solomon's tail, then it got worse, Solomon's kitten 😭

Clawdy · 30/05/2019 17:18

The end of The Amateur Marriage by Anne Tyler, when he imagines seeing his ex wife in the garden of their old home.
The last sentence of Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close, when the boy imagines a scenario if his father hadn't been in the Twin Towers that fateful day "We would have been safe."
The last paragraph of Eve Chase's Black Rabbit Hall. I lent it to DD when she went on holiday, and she sobbed so much reading it on the plane home, people got concerned!

wonkylegs · 30/05/2019 17:19

A man called Ove
Lion: A Long Way Home - has me sobbing and I had to go in my sleeping kids rooms and kiss & hug them when I'd finished it.
The tea planters wife
Adam Kay - This is going to hurt - so funny until the end where I sobbed, I also saw the tour and sobbed at that too - made me reach out and hold DH tight because I know he's been through those heartbreaking moments and it does take a huge toll on him.

The Lido

Goodnight Beautiful by Dorothy Koomson.

Blue5238 · 30/05/2019 17:24

Testament of Youth. I was about 17 and cried for days.

Greenteandchives · 30/05/2019 17:25

Goodbye Mog. I can’t even think about it without tearing up.
As an adult, One Day, when Emma is killed. And bits of the Goldfinch, mostly the bits involving the dog. (I wished we knew what happened to Popchyk in the end).

PlausibleSuit · 30/05/2019 17:27

The Song of Achilles. Had me sobbing for a full day, that did.

Honeybee85 · 30/05/2019 17:29

A little life by Hanya Yanagihara.
I was prepared not to cry but in the end I did.

Captain Correlli’s mandolin by Louis de Bernieres. The bittersweet ending made me sob.

Parker231 · 30/05/2019 17:30

@greenteandchives - definitely Goodbye Mog - a total tearjerker also the children’s book - Seven Little Australians - the last chapter!

Lepetitpiggy · 30/05/2019 17:33

Family, by Susan Hill. She is a wonderful writer anyway, and this is the story of her premature baby. It's simply brilliant and I still cry every time I read it.

Ikeameatballs · 30/05/2019 17:35

Me before you - snotty bawling.

When Matthew dies in Anne of Green gables. Even cried reading it to my children

drsausage · 30/05/2019 17:43

Lots of these made me cry a bit, but All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven made me ugly cry.

BesselVanDerKolk · 30/05/2019 17:48

The fault in our stars (as has been mentioned a few times) and Eleanor Oliphant.

DrFoxtrot · 30/05/2019 17:51
