Can anyone recommend a laptop, please?

Sorry to post in Chat - the relevant subsection is dead.

I WFH mainly from my laptop (on Word), along with the usual Netflix etc. No gaming. Current laptop is 7ish years old and has a gaping hole at the side from when I lost the D drive on an easyJet flight (I mention this to explain the level of care that a laptop can expect from me during its service).

I don't want to spend much money. I bought the current one mainly because - being brutally honest here - once I'd narrowed down stuff like screen size and processing speed - I liked the look of it. It was £300 or so. My husband works at the Californian fruit company and thinks I'm being a) stingy and b) far too whimsical about this.

So, any recommendations? I need something robust, 13/14", with a good battery life and not too heavy. No budget exactly, but I don't get a kick out of this kind of purchase, so no need for a particular brand etc. So far I like this one best:

If you've bought a laptop recently or know about this kind of thing and aren't married to me, could you suggest something please?

Wouldn't be without my Mac - pricy but so worth it

www.overclockers.co.uk laptops are good.

Personally I always buy from a German company - www.xmg.gg/ but their website is in German!

dame I’m worried it’ll take me ages to adapt, and that my use doesn’t justify a Mac.

Looking, thanks sim.

I have a Chromebook and really recommend them. They are cheaper than laptops, lighter, they start immediately and you don't need anti virus software. There is no annoying delay which there can be on a laptop when the anti virus software needs to be installed. Everything is stored on the cloud and they are easy to get used to.

I have a Lenovo with a 14" screen and find it wonderful. I do pay for Office 365 as that gives me so much more than the normal office and paid about £300 for it. It's my second as the first one the charger port broke but they have since changed the design to a more normal port.

house I’d love to but all the reviews mention that Word on Chromebooks isn’t full-function, and that’s something I need for my work (I write high-end CVs with some design elements).
