Scottish midges - help!

We're in a campervan- have been having a wonderful time but have arrived on the Isle of Skye and the midges are horrific. Booked for 2 nights not staying tomorrow as can't bear this
Our question is, how local is the problem likely to be? This end of Skye, the west of Scotland???

Avon have changed the ingredients in Skin So Soft so it’s not as effective as it used to be. :-( Skye is always quite bad but we are never really bothered by them on west coast mainland, maybe just lucky.

They will be about more on dull days and drizzly rain days. They are not really about if it is sunny or if there is a bit of a breeze so I'm afraid it is a bit pot luck at this time of year.

If it’s any comfort to you we haven’t got them in Lewis and Harris yet.... of course, the flip side to this is that it’s probably due to how cold/wet it’s been this week. Today was better, and I was just thinking it was perfect midgie conditions... I use smidge, campfire if you’re wanting to sit out and midgie nets are fantastic. There’s a shop here that sells s jacket version, so your upper body and head are completely protected- it looks fab!

Smidge is soooo much more pleasant to use than deet and sss. Don't give up until you've tried it!

How are things this morning? Both the pharmacy and Co in Broadford should sell Smidge, possibly the Top Shop too (where the Post Office is).

Today may not be so bad for midgies - there's a breeze down here at least that should stop them from attacking.
