Forgot to turn slow cooker on - safe still?

I put an unsmoked gammon joint in the slow cooker before going out.

When I came home I realised I couldn't smell bacon, and realised I'd plugged slow cooker in, but not turned it on Blush

I can't remember the exact time (between 11am - 12pm), and I put it in the actual oven (to heat and cook it fast) at just before 4pm.

I'm worried about it, even though I've soaked gammon overnight in water (in a saucepan at room temperature), but this didn't have water, only brown sugar.

As long as it was covered, I’m sure it would be fine 🤷‍♀️ Does it smell?

redwoodmazza · 29/05/2019 16:25

It'll be fine. It's already cured so will come to no harm.
Perhaps bring it to the boil before slow cooking it properly to be safe ?

Yup it will be fine

No it doesn't smell. To be honest I've felt so dizzy today that I can't remember much, but nope, doesn't smell.

@redwoodmazza great idea, unfortunately too late, I've already put it in the oven (wanted to heat it fast, so took it straight out of slow cooker, and into proper oven).
