So Iv handed my notice in and next Wednesday is my last day. I’m on WTC etc and get dla and carers allowance due to having a disabled son hence why Iv had to stop work.

Should I apply today (last full pay slip was yesterday) or should I wait until I wait until 29th June when Iv had. My last, albeit small pay slip?

As I recall when I did the same (also have a disabled child who gets DLA etc) I applied as soon as my notice period wonderful was tax credits though ,it took a few weeks to get all benefits instated .

Inbedbynine · 29/05/2019 15:36

Hi x2 sorry what does the last bit mean? You waited until you had worked your notice period?

I didn't physically work it ( I had a sick note for the notice period, ,) but yes as I recall I think i had to wait as I got a full monthly wage at the end of the notice period ,I think it took about six weeks to get tax credits ,but I got a week and hands pay the month after due to pay cut off periods ,do you already get carers allowance? Because that only took a 2_or 3 weeks to be paid.

x2boys · 29/05/2019 15:44

Week and a half ffs.

Inbedbynine · 29/05/2019 16:00

I’m not sure I’m with you. Did all payments stop?

I do already get dla and carers allowance and been told that just carries on as normal? Child/wtc will obviously be stopped as will hoisin benefit. Do they allow you to change date you get paid UC? I’m guessing not? I’m worried as I’ll be paid probably about 11th July (that’s 5 weeks later) and all my DD’s come out 1st of the month. With tax credits and housing benefit its four weekly which means payment date gets earlier through the year and that’s fine as I save the money to one side for the next month but I won’t be able to do this as it’s monthly?

I that if if you get Higher Rate DLA the advice is not to migrate over as you are better off on tax credit. If you get HR DLA they cannot insist you transfer to UC.

Have a check before you do anything,

Inbedbynine · 29/05/2019 16:09

I’m worse off if I stay as I lose working tax credit plus my wage which is about £800 a month. If I move then I only lose a couple of £100.

I do get high rate care of dla.

You have to wait until your last scheduled work day - so next Wednesday because you will receive pay until then

Inbedbynine · 29/05/2019 16:13

There’s about £300 difference between staying on old system, not working, losing WTC and my wage and going onto UC. So I’m £300 a month better off on UC then on current system.

Inbedbynine · 29/05/2019 16:13

Yes I will be waiting until next Thursday to claim.

Does anyone know anyone on her that works for UC? Wondering if they would help me tell me what I could expect payment wise? One lovely lady has given me a figure out she doesn’t work at UC and I’m paranoid uC will mess it up As they don’t seem to know anything!!

OP posts:
x2boys · 29/05/2019 17:08

I earnt to much to get tax credits, prior to leaving my job, so it took about six weeks to apply and get them.

Inbedbynine · 29/05/2019 17:24

How come you got tax credits and not UC or was this a while ago? I’m stressing about not knowing the amount of UC I will get.

It was four years ago ,my area only transferred to universal credit last year ,and only for new claimants, are you sure you will.have to transfer to universal credit ?as you already get tax credits ?

Inbedbynine · 29/05/2019 18:07

No, I don’t ‘have’ to but I’m worse off on tax credits/old system.

If you are a lone parent on high rate dla you can’t claim UC.
Your ctc and HB will continue.

Nyctophilia · 29/05/2019 18:11

Can you go to a Citizens advice Bureau, they will do the calculations for you and can also help with the application

Inbedbynine · 29/05/2019 18:15

I can apply for UC as Iv spoken to them. Although it was a useless conversation.

Iv been to citizens advice and they weren’t any help and couldn’t work out what my payments would be be either.

OP posts:
MyDcAreMarvel · 29/05/2019 18:15

You with not be worse of on tax credits, whoever told you that?
You would lose your severe disability premium.

Inbedbynine · 29/05/2019 18:15

I spoke with the citizens advice helpline today and yet again was told something different the two times I rang. So I don’t trust them either at the moment.

OP posts:
MyDcAreMarvel · 29/05/2019 18:16

Not if you live without another adult you can’t, don’t believe everything UC tell you.
And why do you think you will be better off? - you won’t.

Inbedbynine · 29/05/2019 18:17

As I said above a lovely Mner gave me a figure (doesn’t work for UC works for cab) and she confirmed I’d be worse off on current system as have my housing benefit office

OP posts:
Inbedbynine · 29/05/2019 18:18

UC, citizens advice, citizens advise helpline and a MNer have all said I can claim uc in my situation. I can not claim income support as that is taken over by UC
