Wooden dog beds

So I've seen wooden dog beds I like. They're made of pine and painted.

I asked a carpenter if he could give me a price to make them exactly as the ones online and he came in at £100 cheaper. But they would be made of MDF and not pine.

Is there a saving there? Isn't MDF a lot cheaper than pine anyway?

Please tell me I was not the only one thinking OP was looking for a bed for her wooden dog Confused
Personally I think I go for the MDF one if it's going to be painted you wouldn't be able to tell what kind of wood it's anyway and so long as it is well made it should still stand the test of time alternatively can you make one yourself ? I would imagine buying the raw materials and constructing it yourself would work out cheaper. Big B&Qs will cut wood to size for you I think the first 4 cuts are free.

Admittedly I know more about cats than dogs, but isn't the price of the bed inversely proportional to the chance that the animal will actually use it for it's intended purpose? .

Agree that if it's going to be painted anyway, a carpenter made MDF one is likely to be just as sturdy.
