What little things annoy you in a holiday home?

We're in a lovely holiday home at the moment, really nice decor, plenty of crockery and cutlery, a food cupboard of cool bags and beach rugs to help yourself too, definitely one to visit again.

However they have provided three dishwasher tablets and no spare bin bags. Hardly the end of the world but for the price of the rental I always get mildly irritated when they are so stingy with something inexpensive like dishwasher tablets. If it was me I'd just have them in stock like washing up liquid.

Anything irritate you?

Knives are always as blunt as spoons.

InDubiousBattle · 28/05/2019 21:26

No decent knives. No vac. We stayed somewhere nice last year, everything looked great but it had wafer thin curtains. We realised just how thin at the very break of day the first morning we were there.

Sirzy · 28/05/2019 21:27

Rubbish knives and pans.

Nowhere to store things.

Prometheus · 28/05/2019 21:28

You need to have black out curtains. Everything else can be bought at a supermarket. Apart from sleep.

LoisLittsLover · 28/05/2019 21:28

Shit curtains/blinds
Lack of cleaning equipment
Poor upkeep

Loopytiles · 28/05/2019 21:28

Yes, scrimping on basics like that is tight.

Also dislike limescaly kettles - yuck!

FizzBuzzBangWoof · 28/05/2019 21:28

Lack of any decent large mugs seems to be a recurring theme when we rent a holiday cottage

rookiemere · 28/05/2019 21:29

Just back from a weekend break. Delighted that they provided oven gloves and many dishwasher tablets yay !
However I was hugely annoyed by the lack of advertised wifi. We got a cutesy email before we came advising of country wifi speed versus town. Fine but I'd still like to check my emails and the weather which could only be done in reception. So yes that was a bit of a downer.

Oh and there was mould in the shower.

StillRunningWithScissors · 28/05/2019 21:29

Small mugs that only fit a few sips of tea/coffee

Anyone renting out these places should spend a weekend in them first.

Anywaythewindisblowing · 28/05/2019 21:29

I never understood why some places you have to provide your own bedding and towels? 99 per cent of homes we've stayed it (we stay in a lot bless us) it comes 26th the house but this one place you had to either bring your own or pay an extra £40 to hire towels and bedding! On top of the £500 + fee to stay the week!

ApplesOrangesPears · 28/05/2019 21:29

It irritates me when all the kitchen cupboards are filled with with pans/glasses/mugs etc. Nice to have a decent amount of these things but some empty cupboards are necessary to store the food you use while you’re there!

BalloonSlayer · 28/05/2019 21:30

We stayed somewhere (latergot the impression we might have been the first people who did) that slept 4. It had: 4 plates, 4 cups(no mugs), 4 saucers, 4 knives, 4 forks, 4spoons and so on. Cor blimey couldn't wait to leave!

Callistone · 28/05/2019 21:31

Actually yes, there's blackout curtains in every room here except they kids room, which is annoying. Luckily I never travel without one as I foolishly trained both the DC to only sleep in the pitch black!

Anywaythewindisblowing · 28/05/2019 21:31

Comes with* not 26th!

Whistle73 · 28/05/2019 21:31

No pint glasses.

I don't mind soap, washing up liquid, cloths and dishwasher tabs etc NOT being provided but PLEASE TELL ME BEFORE I ARRIVE!

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 28/05/2019 21:31

When there is no socket by a mirror in the bedroom, drives me mad.

TapasForTwo · 28/05/2019 21:31

Double beds with footboards. DH is tall, and we sleep on a superking at home
Cooker hoods that are too low so that DH bumps his head
Dim lighting. I want to be able to see properly
No instructions left on how to use the cooker/dishwasher/washing machine etc
Poor Wi-Fi signal
Blunt knives with no means of sharpening them
Glass "chopping boards". Glass does not make a suitable medium for chopping on. It just blunts the knife.

TapasForTwo · 28/05/2019 21:32

And most important of all - no off road parking.

MerryMarigold · 28/05/2019 21:32

Blunt knives and cheap non stick which has been scraped to smithereens. No basics such as tea bags and instant coffee. It's always nice if they give you a pint of milk to start you off.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 28/05/2019 21:34

Small mugs and glasses are rally annoying, also small bath towels. I hate staying In places where the kettle, toaster, pans etc are clearly the owner's old ones. I especially hate minging kettles.

It's lovely if the bed is a king. I also hate rubbish showers or showers that are tricky to use. I'm not bothered about baths.

We stayed in a house once where there were notes absolutely everywhere reminding you how to draw the curtains or turn the taps or shut the cupboards. It just made me think they couldn't be bothered to fix things and it was easier to leave notes.

Callistone · 28/05/2019 21:34

Exactly whistle! We don't have a dishwasher at home. Using it is too much of a treat for me to not to, but what am I going to do now with 25 leftover dishwasher tablets?! (Disclaimer, I'm sure I'll find a use, I'm not that thick)

PerspicaciaTick · 28/05/2019 21:34

I'm in a holiday home at the moment. Four of us, although room for another couple of children. We have 3 mugs and 17 cereal bowls ??!?

Sirzy · 28/05/2019 21:34

Showers with no power to them and which take ages to figure how to work

BikeRunSki · 28/05/2019 21:35

YY to blunt knives!
Small mugs
Fewer comfy chairs than beds
Fewer plates etc than beds
No bedside tables, washing up liquid, tea towels, bath mat , cheese grater

CrackersDontMatter · 28/05/2019 21:35

You’ve said you have plenty of crockery so that’s great. That is my personal bugbear. No one should be renting out a property that sleeps 8 but only has crockery for 6. Drives me mad.
