AIBU to want to name my own child

So just had baby no.3, a girl after 2 boys. I never named my boys my in laws always did, however i liked the first name and was happy to keep it. i wasnt so happy with the 2nd but have obviously grown to like it and couldnt imagine him being called anything else now.
My daughter however is the one name id like to keep. Im happy to listen to other peoples opinions and options. Before she was born we had chosen a name which we both really like and still do however MIL doesnt like it and now because her opinion is valued most in DHs eyes we cannot name her that. im upset about it because i went through a difficult long labour with her and generally had a tiring pregnancy with 2 other small kids.

AIBU to say something or should i just let them all choose and keep the peace.

Good for you OP! Your MIL will come around, and her love of your little girl will make her love the name.

I was in a marriage like this OP. Not to this extent but the in laws decided every aspect of my wedding, my house, threw a strop over how I wanted my garden, I didn't even see my Ds christening venue or cake before the big day. It didn't last we divorced shortly after. I now have 2 more dc and did everything my way (well our way) planning second wedding as well again my way. Don't stand for it OP it won't end well.

Great update. Hope your successfully sticking up for yourself has given you to courage to not let them walk over you again.

What the hell? If your mother in law likes the name so much tell her to change her own bloody name to it.

Good grief! I'm glad you got the name you already chose in the end OP, although this does seem quite worrying... MIL had her chance to name her own kids, and shouldn't be naming yours too. And your DH respects her opinion more than yours?
You've won this battle, and I think need to steel yourself and put on the big girl pants to not be taken advantage of any more in future!

Sorry this is making me angry for you and I don't even know you Angry need to have more backbone for your childrens sakes too, they'll look to you as a role model of how they should act when older too 👍 good luck with the future xx

I'm so glad it worked out. Given that this situation wasn't cultural, it was insane that the name was being dictated by the grandparents.
Well done for sticking to your guns.
