I remember us reading this book in school in the late 80's, there was a girl who drew a house in the middle of nowhere and ended up there (in her dreams possibly?). At some point she added rocks with eyes outside which really freaked me out, can't for the life of me find which book it was though, any ideas?!

I loved Marianne Dreams, I think of it every time I see the rocks in the garden downstairs

Thank you so much. This book has been haunting me for years as no one ever knows what I'm talking about. I remember it well!

Glad you found your creepy book OP. Does anyone remember a book about a little girl with a green ribbon around her neck? The little boy and girl fall in love and they get married and she always tell him not to undo the ribbon. When they're old he removes it and her head falls off?!

I read marianne dreams in the 70s such a creepy book for children

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 28/05/2019 19:53

One of my favourite books. It was made into a TV series early 70s.

LittleKitty1985 · 28/05/2019 19:58

Haha, i guessed it from your thread title before I even read your description! I loved it and still think about it often, such an original and creepy story!

Charles11 · 28/05/2019 20:18

DieCryHate I would’ve read your book but you’ve ruined it with your spoiler. Lol.

Lucked · 28/05/2019 20:22

Yes! There is a film called Paperhouse which is quite good and creepy but it is definitely an adaptation and it is not completely true to the book.

tutorwho · 28/05/2019 20:29

I loved the book as it was different and I always hoped that the end would change.

DelurkingAJ · 28/05/2019 20:35

There’s also a sequel...’Marianne and Mark’ which I remember as much less good. Just had to look the title up and Marianne Dreams was first published in 1958!

DieCryHate · 28/05/2019 21:28

@Charles11 haha, sorry, I should've put a spoiler warning!
